We also did a quarantine stint this past May (May 12 - May 19) on a 14 day Nieuw Statendam cruise. We were given a balcony cabin, had good food service with plastic the first two days then switched over to real dishes, cutlery and glasses for the remaining. Thankfully our symptoms were mild. We received a letter indicating that we would receive FCC credits for the days in quarantine. Our ship disembarked on May 22nd so we are coming up on 60 days post cruise and still no FCC's appear on my online account. I am planning on calling customer service tomorrow. If anyone had another department number which may be better for inquiry please let me know. How long did it take the others on this thread to receive your FCC's? Any help is much appreciated.

Hi Sueseabe - We were on the Nieuw Statendam from April 17-May 1.  My husband was in Covid quarantine for 8 days and we have not received a FCC.  We have emailed Guest Relations twice and called twice.  Once we were told someone would get back to us.  So far nothing!

'Paxiloid' may not be indicated for most but the list is long for Paxlovid as seen below in article from John Hopkins periodical:

When the FDA authorized the emergency use of Paxlovid, it specified that the drug was to be prescribed to people at high risk of getting severely ill from covid. The high-risk list is long, including people older than 65 and those who have chronic or serious health conditions such as cancer, obesity, diabetes, asthma, and heart disease.

Does Holland America ships provide the antiviral Paxiloid if found you test post?

@Williamsburg Perhaps the really relevant advice is to talk to your regular doctor BEFORE TRAVEL to find out if you would be a good candidate for Paxlovid or not. Not everyone needs it; not everyone can take it safely.

Thus far, I've not heard of any ships carrying that antiviral drug yet. However, I know of two cruisers (read it first on CC somewhere) whose doctor wrote a prophylactic prescription for Paxlovid so that the patient could carry it aboard JUST IN CASE.

No one here should be commenting on whether or not anyone else is a good candidate; only your physician has anything useful to tell you about what you should do on this question.

Well, I tried that unsuccessfully.  Called our family doc of many years.  He said that he could not write a script UNLESS it was accompanied by a positive Covid test, and even then, we'd have to meet all sorts of criteria about risk.

He also tossed in that he doesn't think Paxlovid is a bona fide drug and equates it with hydrochloroquine and ivermectin (!!!!) and pretty much belittled me for asking.  He also implied that at 73 and 83, my husband and I are NOT "high risk." I beg to differ.

I hate it, but I will never see him again.  I need a doctor who is a real doctor not a moron.

However, I did ask another actual doctor who isn't a flaming idiot, and he also said that right now, you cannot get Paxlovid without a verified positive Covid test.  (To clarify, I wanted to get a prescription and actually have it filled and take the Paxlovid with us because we won't be able to get a prescription filled once we embark except in one or two ports that are in the US.  Everything else is overseas.)  The second doc thought that was actually a good idea but said that the supply available simply precludes doing that right now.

Is your first doctor a 'moron' because he spent at least 6 years in college, including medical school, and has x many years of experience.. or because he disagreed with you and didn't tell you what you wanted to hear?

I had a similar experience.  However, I believe that according to the CDC, licensed pharmacists can write and fill a prescription for Paxlovid upon attestation that it is needed, no proffered negative test needed.  There are a few hurdles to jump, none insurmountable if one has access to one's medical records online.  The bad news is that relatively few pharmacies in my area participate in the program.

I am personally aware of this being done in Massachusetts without proof of a positive COVID test.

Though the drugs aren't always getting to those most in need due to general healthcare limitations in rural/poor areas, I believe Paxlovid is no longer in short supply compared to the number of Rx being written.

He's a moron because he equated Paxlovid with ivermectin.  If you don't understand why that is a problem coming from a physician, well, I can't help you.

I can no longer trust him. He is a family practice specialist.  He SHOULD be very up-to-date on Covid stuff.  He clearly is not.

That's what I thought, which is why I asked the original doctor the original question.  I had even read stuff suggesting that it might be given over-the-counter status.

At any rate, I give up.

It might have something to do with the fact that I live in rural Kentucky.
