Hmm, is this really legit? Or is this why we can't have nice things? 😄

 

So I see a couple of posts matching the cruise I'm taking with some family. Sounds like one party needs to give the other party the Booking # and Sailor names (one or both if double-occupancy?), and the second party contacts VV (or their TA) to connect the reservations.

 

How much damage can someone do with that info? Like can they cancel my cruise or change my cabin?? 😬

 

This doesn't connect anything in the app, right? That's a separate process I think...

so i'm on valiant right now and wish i brought popcorn watching this unfold (guess i could get it from the social club though!).  everyone in the FB group traded info, and now everyone's dining reservations, shore excursions and show tickets are getting cancelled. 

 

it doesn't seem like any of this is malicious (although posting personal info in a FB group - even private! - is kind of a risky proposition, as i believe anyone could just cancel your reservation entirely with that info!) 

 

the way the app is built, if you have referral people, they can add/remove you to reservations/tickets.  if they end up booking something for the same time as you, the app thinks that they're "with" you.  say if they're 2 people, both groups had a show at the same time, and they want to move their reservation, the app will prompt them to cancel "just you" or "whole group."  any logical human would think that whole group would just mean you and the person on your reservation, but the app thinks both 2-person parties are one reservation so cancels all of you.

 

the intent of the program was to link actual friends, not interwebs strangers, but even still, i wouldn't need to eat and go around the ship with my friends 100% of the time, and i certainly wouldn't even want my friends to be able to cancel my stuff!!! 

 

bottom line - proceed at your own risk.  there's apparently a way to delete people from the app, but some folks have reported them coming back, and others have reported the app crashing every time they're trying to do that.  YMMV!

I'm curious @_tacocat_ does this troublesome linking issue occur between any parties who have booked using referral links? Or is it a particular issue when people share names and booking # to get the credit after the fact or I guess through a TA?

 

I'm especially curious as I used one of your referral links from the spreadsheet for our upcoming Scarlet Lady voyage in two weeks! 👀 But when I made our dinner reservations I only saw myself and my husband as people to add and I haven't tried to cancel anything. I promise to be extra careful...

i'm not sure - we didn't have any issues when people used one of my links earlier this year, but almost everyone on my current voyage has done the "name and booking number" linking after the fact.

Well, I guess we'll find out! My hunch is it's more of an issue with the name and booking# linkages. The referral link seems to be anonymous and designed to "spread the word" for the line more than anything else. My recollection when I used it to book was that clickihg the link just brought up a generic booking page for that specific cruise. No mention of "join < referring name> on this voyage!" I think I wasn't even sure the thing worked until I saw the loot in my account after I booked.

FYI, I have found that booking via a referral link does not link you in the app/allow accidental modifications of reservations - am guessing this occurs when post-booking requests to link are made.

But just to be clear - the referral link only works if one party hasn't yet booked their cruise, right?

I'm already booked, and if we want to share some booty with a stranger, it's going to connect us in the app, and then all hell can break loose? Not sure it's worth it...

 

As it is, the VV app & website is atrocious. I'm trying to manage 3 cabins for family, and it only lets me show one at a time in either the app or the website. If I link one of the other cabins, that becomes the "Default" and it even changes my profile pic in the app! What a mess.
