Brussels train station

Recommended Posts

Is anyone familiar with the train stations in Brussels? If traveling g from Amsterdam, which train station in Brussels put you closest to city center/attractions, etc. Is it walkable from the train station or do you still need a taxi at that point?

Take a train to Bruxelles-Central.  It is in the heart of the city, just steps from the Grand Place.  Easy to get around.

Just be aware that there are 2 types of trains between Amsterdam and Brussels;

1) Thalys; the high speed train. Tickets for this train need to be booked in advance and are tied to a specific train on a specific day and time with reserved seats. In Brussels, this train only stops at Brussels South, (Bruxelles Midi in French, Brussel Zuid in Dutch/Flemish)

2) Intercity Brussels; a regular train. Tickets for this train are only tied to a specific day. On that day, you can take any Intercity train from Amsterdam to Brussels. In Brussels this train stops at Brussels Airport, Brussels North, Brussels Central and Brussels South.

Tickets for both types of trains can be bought at the website of the Dutch railway company https://www.nsinternational.com/en/out-and-about/brussels-for-a-day

Thank you

You're welcome.  Last time we were there, we stayed at the Novotel Brussels Off Grand Place.  Decent rooms at a fair price and close to rail station and (of course) the Grand Place and centre of the city.

  • 2 months later...

We are staying in Brussels a few days before our river cruise that starts at Amsterdam at 3:30 pm.  Can I safely book a train that leaves Brussels in the morning the same day that the cruise begins?  Are the trains reliable, or should we cut short our stay in Brussels and leave the day prior to our cruise?  Thanks.

Trains are reliable... stay with your plan.
