Ernie G Posted February 28, 2006 #1 Share Posted February 28, 2006 We've decided to go down a day early for our upcoming cruise and want to bid a room on Priceline. I've read most of the postings about MIAMI, but I am still unclear as to which are the safest areas, and which areas to avoid. We want a nice hotel, but doesn't have to be total luxury. Any suggestions on a safe area with decent hotels?
signman Posted February 28, 2006 #2 Share Posted February 28, 2006 There really isn't much to do in Downtown Miami. All the action is in South Beach. What do you want to do? Safest bids are 4 star properties. Did you read http://www.biddingfortravel.com There are lots of reviews there.

Ernie G Posted March 1, 2006 Author #4 Share Posted March 1, 2006 We will mostly be looking for a place to sleep and perhaps get a nice seafood dinner. It's just that I remember reading somewhere that some of the Miami areas were not safe, but can't remember which areas. Any areas we should avoid? camella Posted March 1, 2006 #6 Share Posted March 1, 2006 You may also want to try the Coconut Grove area. They have a couple of Marriott hotels - a residence in and I believe a Courtyard Inn and are located close to an area called Coco Walk . You could walk around that area in the day time and it isn't too far from a couple of local restaurants called Scotty's Landing - which is very casual and right on the water and good seafood and another called Monty's (Monty Trainers) also on the water. Both would require a short cab ride, but both are casual and Monty's has tvs for sports and reagaee (sp?) music. Hope this helps. The places that aren't safe are around the airport and if you stay in downtown Miami, stay near Bayside marketplace because there are some very seedy areas (at night) only a few blocks to the west. popcorngal Posted March 3, 2006 #7 Share Posted March 3, 2006 Camella, can you tell me anything about the Wyndham Grand Bay at Coconut Grove? I just booked that today but haven't seen too much on it. What I have read is mixed reviews, so I'm hoping for the best! Thanks!
