Welcome to Cruise Critic.   If you would give some specifics someone could answer.  What cruise ship?  When is your cruise?  Are you asking about a shore excursion?  Where?

Your question likely belongs on the roll call for your cruise.

Looking at your past posts suggests you are looking at a tour to Mendenhall Glacier.  Have done this a few times.  Easiest is to walk across the street leaving the ship and find the city bus stop.  There is a city bus that can take you there.  Call the tourist office if you need specifics.

Pretty good. They don't generally completely fill excursions before sailing. It would be bad customer experience if they boarded a ship and everything was sold out.  if you're going to a unique/exotic destination I'd book as soon as practical. If it's a beach break in the caribbean, I wouldn't have any concerns.

OP, If you are looking at the excursion that goes to the Gardens and Mendenhall Glacier, please reply.

 

I did this excursion two weeks ago and the Garden part was not what I expected.

 

Anyone who has problems with heights, motion sickness or neck /back problems should not take this excursion.

In Juneau we usually buy a ticket on the blue buses ( right by the dock) which takes you to the parking lot at the park, so we are free to hike without any time constraint except all aboard.

The excursion is the one where you get to paddle in a canoe and get near-ish to the glacier. It is not kayaking.
