Crusin-Suzan Posted July 17, 2022 #1 Share Posted July 17, 2022 Thinking of doing this next April! Anyone know if it would be new or old canal.
cruisetravlr Posted July 17, 2022 #2 Share Posted July 17, 2022 We went through the old locks in March. Usually, that’s the way for smaller ships but I do not think there’s a guarantee.
Rare Essiesmom Posted July 18, 2022 #3 Share Posted July 18, 2022 Definitely the old locks. EM
HollDoll Posted July 18, 2022 #4 Share Posted July 18, 2022 Old locks. I believe the new larger locks are for those huge cargo ships that do not fit in smaller locks.
rkacruiser Posted July 18, 2022 #5 Share Posted July 18, 2022 My experience on during a partial transit on the Eurodam in January, 2020 was using the old canal. During part of the transit, the new canal can be seen. It helps when there is one of the huge container ships is transiting.
Rare Btimmer Posted July 19, 2022 #6 Share Posted July 19, 2022 You'll likely be using the old locks. BUT if you have a port stop at Panama City or Colon, take a shore excursion to visit the new locks at Agua Clara. It's worth it to see the new locks in action as they are different than the old locks.
