Ambulatory rooms aboard HAL ?

I noticed we somehow got booked into an ambulatory room without our knowledge as this was never explained to us. Whats the key difference? Do we have any recourse as cruise line is stating the cruise is sold out?

If you booked the cruise as a guarantee and no one requested the HC cabin you could have been assigned the cabin. You don't mention how far out the cruise is, but guarantees are generally filled between 10 days and 2 weeks before the cruise.

If you don't want the cabin, you might be able to call your booking agent (Travel agent if used, HAL if not) and get put back into guarantee status to be assigned another cabin.

I'm not sure what guaranteed status is? We booked through HAL directly. When we received our itin it showed the cabin number but when i looked at the ship map on trip advisor there's an * beside our room. I called in a couple times and kept getting different answers finally someone confirmed its an ambulatory room. We are a young family with no issues. I asked for us to be moved to a regular room in the category we paid for they said its fully booked, but if we wanted we could pay an extra $1400 for an upgrade?? We don't travel that often and that would break our bank leavings us with very little to enjoy excursions. We never asked for this room nor was it explained to us.

An ambulatory room is a bit bigger and has some nice things. We had one on the Westerdam last week (DH needs a handicapped room). There was a button on the wall to open the bathroom door. The bathroom was super spacious (we had a signature suite) and we did well. We've had handicapped balcony cabins as well. If you look up the site halfacts and then navigate to your ship you may see pictures of your cabin.

There are three types of accessible cabins, and ambulatory is the least accessible of them all. It is designed for disabled people who are mobile, but have other difficulties. They could have visual or hearing impairments, and there are accommodations to the cabin to meet those needs. 

There is nothing wrong with this cabin for a non-handicapped person, so long as a disabled person doesn't need it. Apparently no one did, so it was assigned. You booked a guarantee, which means HAL can assign any available cabin in your category or higher.

I don't believe it is an accessible cabin. I Googled it and it shows as a family cabin.

It’s ambulatory accessible meaning that it is made for a person that is able to walk, but may need the assistance of a cane or walker.  You will see grab handles in the bathroom, and shower hand wand…and a BIG BONUS, you will be very near elevators…no, don’t worry about elevator noise, you are in the outside, will never know they are there until you need them.  This will be a great cabin for your family!

Anyone stayed in an ambulatory accessible room on Noordam? Cabin 5140 is what we got assigned. Thanks
