Snorkeling in San Diego

My DH and I are going to San Diego for a conference and plan to drive in the day before. I had heard there is a beach that is good for snorkeling. It is a Wednesday.
 

Does anyone have suggestions? We would want to rinse off sand and change somewhere afterwards.

The only “beach” that you can really snorkel in is La Jolla cove. There is a marine park off the coast.The visibility elsewhere is pretty poor. You are going to need a wet suit. The west coast has a northern current. This is nothing like Florida. The average summer water temperature is 68. Today it was 74, one of the highest I’ve ever seen it.

Right off La Jolla Cove you can see California Garibaldi (gold fish) and off La Jolla Shore Beach, leopard sharks. The water will be chilly.

I would find another activity you will be disappointed.
