Elo dolly Posted May 21, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 21, 2004 We were on the Triumph in April and also April of last year. My question is...does anyone know how often they change their shows? The ones we saw were the same as last year...The Vagas shows were the same and also John Heald! His "Mary" show was almost word for word (and he swears he never met these people right!), and the "I love you and I need you" was also the same...what a disappointment! Our 5th cruise on the VALOR leaving in......
Cotton Posted May 21, 2004 #2 Share Posted May 21, 2004 I've seen the exact same Vegas-type show (Fuego del Caribe) on the Holiday for three years straight (but with different 'stars'). I think they run them a long, long, lonnnnnnng time before changing. Most folks don't cruise the same ship every year, and I know a lot goes into the productions, so I can understand their reasoning. GottaLuvCruising Posted May 21, 2004 #3 Share Posted May 21, 2004 We've sailed Carnival nine times. On several cruises, we saw shows for the second time (and maybe even the third.) But we were pleasantly surprised on our recent Carnival Spirit / Hawaii sailing of 12 days that ALL of the shows were new to us. It had been 19 months since our last cruise. HOSKI Posted May 21, 2004 #4 Share Posted May 21, 2004 It's not just the same ship. We have seen the same show on two different ships within a year. I like the show and if I missed it the first time I could catch it the second. Also, you would be surprised how different a different cast makes. IBEEMOM Posted May 21, 2004 #5 Share Posted May 21, 2004 I have heard that the shows run for five years. I guess because the productions are very expensive to produce. Marty CARNIVAL MIRACLE
marklodi Posted May 22, 2004 #6 Share Posted May 22, 2004 This question was asked at the recent Up Close & Personal Q&A session on the Pride last week. Greg Kneale and Dave Fulton said that shows can last from 7 to 8 years on a particular ship, because of the millions of dollars it takes to swap out for a new show. They may switch songs or such, but the show pretty much stays in place for quite a while. He also said that some ships have similar shows with slight variations. This makes it easier during the design process to install a show on multiple ships rather that different shows for each ship. Mark ºoº 5/9/04 Pride Cruise - 1st Cruise! Cruising89143 Posted May 22, 2004 #8 Share Posted May 22, 2004 I found the shows on the Triumph in March to be the same ones that were on the ship back when in 99 when she was new. Also John Heald's bedtime story is the same and yes his ramark about not knowing those individual's is a laugh in itself. HOSKI Posted May 22, 2004 #9 Share Posted May 22, 2004 Mark really knows his shows. Does anyone know what the show line-up is for the 5 night Holiday? A two night to nowhere? Cotton Posted May 22, 2004 #10 Share Posted May 22, 2004 Hoski, as I said above, one of the shows on a 5-night Holiday cruise is Fuego del Caribe, which is very Vegas-y. The other production show is SHOUT!, which is also great, but not as glitz - and kinda 50s show. I loved them both - even after three times on three cruises. I don't know about a 2-nighter. HOSKI Posted May 22, 2004 #11 Share Posted May 22, 2004 Thanks Cotton, I have seen SHOUT, I think twice now. I was wondering about the other 3 nights. We usually do 7 nighters and one night you have the CD and a juggler of some type, one night is guest talent show and then the family comedy. Cotton Posted May 23, 2004 #12 Share Posted May 23, 2004 OK, looking at Capers from September - the other three nights were comedians and magicians, and (oops, don't have that Capers)...and they don't start until 10:30. Those shows aren't my cuppa tea, so I rarely go to them. MrPete Posted May 23, 2004 #13 Share Posted May 23, 2004 Having sailed Carnival for 16 years, there are some shows I can repeat line for line. It's a treat when you find some fresh material. Last couple of trips I've enjoyed the musical that includes the number from Mary Poppins (Step in Time). As for the cruise directors seeming "imprompto", it's the same stuff all the time with a different delivery. It's really painful if you get the same cruise director two times in a row (unless it's John Heald). I made the mistake of capturing my early cruises on video, and when you know the material, it gets dry. The interactive stuff with the audience is always interesting, cause it's the unexpected that is funny. The passenger talent show is something I never miss. Nowadays, I just look for the fresh stuff usually found on the newer ships, else I go for a stroll or a swim under the stars. __ /7__/7__/7____ \:::::::::::::::::::/ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Miracle 7/10/04 NY to Bahamas and Port Canaveral Disney Wonder 3/04/04 Pride 7/16/03 Bermuda Legend 10/17/02 CTN Disney Wonder 9/15/02 Destiny 4/29/01 Southern Caribbean Victory 9/14/00 Canadian Maritimes Triumph 9/99 Canadian Maritimes Jubilee 4/98 Trans Pacific/Hawaii Imagination 4/97 Western Caribbean Imagination 4/96 Western Caribbean Fascination 4/95 Southern Caribbean Ecstasy 4/18/93 Eastern Caribbean Fantasy 9/25/90 Bahamas Jubilee 5/13/90 Mexican Riviera NCL Seaward 1/15/89 Western Caribbean Jubilee 4/24/88 Eastern Caribbean HONEYMOON
