Discovery Refit

Recommended Posts

Have been on Discovery twice joining again with family in March 2023, have joined Marella facebook group, and hearing during refurb Marella have taken out the settee,s the fridge,s and the wardrobe doors, a little bit harsh, our other cruises on Discovery in the Caribbean pre covid have be wonderful  and the crew very attentive , are standards slipping with Marella or is it me.

Excuse me for being thick but how would removing settees and wardrobe doors save money???

Well removing settees might cost you money as with nowhere to sit in the cabin you will be out and about and possibly spending. No wardrobe doors is a modernization to current design trends. in fact P&O's 'new' Iona has no cabin drawers. Lack of a fridge will be IMO a retrograde step but it saves on having to buy hundreds of new fridges to replace the old broken ones. The fridges recovered can then be installed in Voyager or Discovery 2 🤑

Apparently the lack of doors on wardrobes and settees missing, was a supply issue during the Cadiz refurb. Seen pictures on FB that show some cabins complete (suites) and some with missing  wardrobe doors. At least 1 cabin has reportedly been given £100 refund for lack of a settee.

Some aren't too keen on the cream and brown colour palette!

hi Howmuch.   yes got back today off Marella Discovery. we had a big empty  space  where our settee should have been. letter on the bed said  £100 refund and it was put on our account. it talked about supply issues.   we  were premium AI and  quite a few drinks in bars  were not available for same issue. alternatives  were there but had we known about it we would have just booked standard AI.

We did the crossing on Discovery arriving home on the 23rd December. We had a beautiful cabin on deck 8. It was fully refurbed , settee. no doors on wardrobes but we had drawers where the fridge would have been. The colour scheme was black and white. Brand new bathroom with a door on the shower. New carpets throughout the ship. Islands buffet has more seating and looks much brighter.
We had plenty of problems departing Malaga. Massive queues at all bars not enough staff. This went on for 4 days until we were got to Lanzarote where more staff were taken on. The food was of a much lower standard in all venues, even in the paying restaurants. Surf & Turf £31.95 Kora la £26.95 felt pressured into having more expensive drinks. The entertainment was rubbish. Party band Shine didn’t sing anything other than reggae but nothing you can dance to. Other band The Collective were often in the show so not appearing in the bars. Jon the pianist in the live room is often very disrespectful to customers.

Entertainment team not very social, not getting people up to dance.

We have we have been cruising since 1996 twice a year the majority on Thomson’s and Marella and we this was the worst cruise we have been on along with a lot of other people.
