Dear Cruisers
we are thinking about booking a cruise that starts in Hongkong and would highly appreciate if you could let us know the actual procedures to board/deboard and the local requirements.
Apart from the cruise: Is getting around on your own in Hongkong possible for tourists or did you have trouble roaming freely in the city?
Thank you very much in advance for your info/tipps!
Wishing everyone a nice sunday from Germany

Hong Kong is very different now to pre COVID.  We used to get around very easily by train and taxi.  We always felt safe wandering about the city. So much has happened politically in the last few years, as well as COVID related restrictions..

You really need to check Hong Kong’s government and/or tourism websites for current requirements for flying into the island, testing requirements, etc.

Dear Silke,

As of today, there is no Covid restrictions entering Hong Kong.  No vaccination or testing requirements and no quarantine.

You are free to roam the city.  No vaccine pass required.

Covid-related boarding requirement is up to individual cruise lines I believe, not by the government.

(P.S. As an incentive to visitors, the HK is giving away 500,000 free air tickets to visitors via the airlines.  If you are interested: https://www.hongkongairport.com/iwov-resources/html/wow/tickets/en/)

We just got back after a cruise that ended in Hong Kong.  No problems getting around the city, had a great time.  Everything is open.  You must wear a mask anyplace in the city.  We had to have a negative covid test to enter Hong Kong and returning to the US we also had to have a negative Covid test 48 hours before getting on the plane.

Thanks for your first-hand-comment!
Did you have the feeling that tourism is back to normal or still very few around?

No. not at all.  In fact it was better, Hong Kong was so happy to see tourists.  Treated nicely.
