Do regular plans work in Alaska, or do you still need to get the WIFI to be able to connect?

Do you mean cell phone service? Our Verizon cell service worked fine back in 2017 in Juneau, Skagway and Ketchikan for the most part. We go again next month so it should be the same but I will let you know if there are any changes.

NOTE: This is when the ship is docked at Port; definitely turn off your mobile data when in the water to avoid roaming charges.

Most towns are good.  Skagway can be very spotty.  I usually go to the highest deck of the ship, and it works.  Make sure data roaming is turned off and you won't pick up the ship's cell service.  There are numerous places you can get cell service while underway.  There's a cell tower in Gustavus near Glacier Bay and as you go past Hoonah.  AT&T has the most towers and best service.
