Transport from EWR hotel (Elizabeth) to Manhattan Cruise Terminal

 Share

Recommended Posts

We are a family of 4, flying into EWR a couple days before our cruise in September.  Looking for recommendations to get from the hotel to the cruise port.  I've searched the boards and don't see anything really that recommends transfers for 4.  Thank you so much in advance for your help and suggestions!

What hotel are you staying at? Are you locked into that hotel because of something like a nonrefundable prepayment? Family in the Elizabeth area?

I'm asking because if you're cruising from Manhattan, why not stay in Manhattan, which has so many things to do and see. The Elizabeth area has little to offer and you will spend a lot of time and money going to other places...like Manhattan. If for some reason I'm unaware of there's some reason you don't want to stay in Manhattan, Jersey City would be a better choice than Elizabeth.

If you're absolutely locked into staying in Elizabeth there are many ways to get to Manhattan...train, bus, Uber, car service. What are your preferences?

I assume that you're staying in Elizabeth, rather than Manhattan, in order to save some money. Depending on the particular hotel in Elizabeth, it might be practicable to use public transportation for the journey to the Manhattan Cruise Terminal, and possibly save a few dollars compared to the cost of private transportation. Which hotel? Otherwise, there are many for-hire vehicles (taxis, TNC vehicles, black cars, etc.) for which others can provide sound advice.

We are flying in to Newark and renting a car and going to Atlantic City, coming back and spending the night by the airport at the Holiday Inn Express.  Just looking for recommendations that would pick us up at the hotel vs having to go to the airport to get a transfer.

Uber, Lyft or a car service such as Carmel Limo.

If you would rather be in Atlantic City an extra night (vs an airport hotel in Newark) there's really no reason why you couldn't easily commute from AC to the pier the day of departure-- its only about a 2 hour drive straight up the Garden State Parkway. If you were up and out, conservatively at 8-9am, you would have the car dropped off and over to the pier by 12-1pm with plenty of buffer time. I'd personally enjoy that a lot more than staying by the airport.

There is no public transportation that boards passengers at the hotel itself, and there is some of the worst possible pedestrian access to the nearest public transportation. You're likely best served by either using the hotel's courtesy transportation to the airport for a transfer (e.g., Coach USA airport bus to Port Authority Bus Terminal, AirTrain + New Jersey Transit commuter train to Pennsylvania Station), or engage a for-hire vehicle direct from the hotel to the Manhattan Cruise Terminal.

Remaining in Atlantic City, instead of spending a night in Elizabeth, is a practicable alternative. Depending on the location of the particular rental company, there might be public transportation from that location direct to midtown Manhattan.
