Lost promo-code after we made an upgrade

So we booked our upcoming cruise in November on our last cruise since they had an onboard promo, that when you book onboard you will receive triple latitude points. So we loved that idea and went ahead and our booking confirmation showed promo-code LATRIPLE.

Then yesterday we called NCL and asked to upgrade us from balcony to the haven, since we always wanted to try it. But now I am looking at the updated booking confirmation and the promo code LATRIPLE is gone. Called them back and asked about it and they told me that there is nothing they can do and we lost it because of the upgrade.

So my question to the experts here, is this normal?? For us it doesn’t make sense to remove the original promo code.

It is normal. Sometimes the "upgrade" triggers the price change and you will get the new cabin at the new price and the new promo.

On the other hand, if your previous booking doesn't have the LATRIPLE promo but today the LATRIPLE promo is offered, then you will get the LATRIPLE promo when you upgrade today.

Yes. Also good to note that NCL reps are notorious for processing upgrades, promising the promos will still be there, and screwing the whole thing up.

On our upcoming NCL cruise, we attempted to book an upgrade, and somehow lost all of our promos (free at sea, etc) in the process. It took 5+ hours on the phone trying to get our old room back and the promos reversed with the “resolution desk.”

We did end up with a complimentary $100 OBC for the fiasco, which was a nice gesture.

Yes when you upgrade at the current price you get the current promotions.  I just did an upgrade from club balcony to haven and lost the latriple.  It was a good deal because the upgrade was less than the minimum bid...  However the current promo is one extra per night so I'll still get 3 points per night(1 normal, 1 extra for haven, 1 extra on the promo).  With latriple I was getting 4 points per night so not a big loss.

You would also get all the current promotions which are basically that same at least for me.  I.E. free at sea, drink package, 3 dining,  300 minutes wifi, $50 shorex credit etc.   However after the upgrade all these promo's dropped off when I got the invoice.  Called the PCC back and got it all corrected but it took him 20 - 30 minutes to get it done.

That is exactly our experience as well, no heads up that we will lose the promo, only to find out later. Losing the promotion is not a deal breaker to us, but they could be more transparent about it.

Same here, we got a fantastic deal and had a 50% discount voucher that applied to the upgrade as well. Also from my last cruise on the Prima we learned that the Haven very likely sells out before the cruise starts and we really wanted to give it a go this time on our upcoming 11 day Prima TA with many sea days.

You didnt have to book on board to get the Triple promotion. The Triple promotion (3 extra points) finished on May 31st. Always ask about the extras you have every time you are going to make a change to your booking. Right now some cruises have the Double again though. (2 extra points)

Thanks for this info, do you know when this current double promo started? Maybe I can give them a call to add the double points promo.

As far as I know "they" can't add latitudes promos - it's system generated, a rep has no control over the codes.  So if your cruise was eligible for extra points when you upgraded, they would have been added.

The current promo is just for a select few cruises.

As far as I’m aware this doesn’t apply to those of us in Europe. We have different conditions and don’t loose the extra points if we upgrade or reprice. 🤞😉

I like to remember the "four corners" rule when dealing with NCL: the only thing that matters is what's between the four corners of a document, not what any rep or website tells you.

Always compare the cruise docs that are emailed to you after speaking with a rep or making a booking change. This way, you can verify the codes in the upper right of your booking are correct/carry over... the worst case scenario is getting on a ship a realizing something isn't correct, with no recourse.

I understand that if you call and change the booking, aka upgrading to a different category or reprice before final payment that the booking will change.

BUT does the same logic apply if you do a bid for a different stateroom? I have the extra three points on our upcoming trip and I don’t want to lose that.

EDIT: I found the answer in the Upgrade advantage FAQ

5. What happens with the promotions I already have?
You get to keep the promotions you already have. However, no additional promotions will be added to your reservation.

I also lost the extra 2 points promo when I undegraded for my September cruise, however, the promo was still showing active on the app when I did the price check and called to rebook.  When I upgraded the Casino at Seas Rep told me I would not lose any promos but I noticed when they emailed me the invoice that I did.

I looked on my laptop and it was not available anymore then tried the app again and it still showed up.  So I called and they told me to send the screenshot from my phone but the promo was over and not much they can do.  I sent the screenshot and figured I would never hear back.  A week later they apologized, reinstated my promo and gave me a $100 obc.  Obviously it was a technical glitch but it worked in my favor.
