Luggage Forwarding Japan

We are doing a one week land tour of Japan prior to embarking Silversea Muse on Sept 25 in Yokohama.  We will travel that one week with carryon only. How and where do we send our larger luggage to be waiting for us on board? Sounds like luggage forwarding is common in Japan, at least to your next hotel, but we’re forwarding a week ahead and no one can tell us exactly where to send it! Very frustrated and I don’t want to be worrying about luggage.
Any suggestions?

We recently (Mar-Apr) were in Japan and used luggage forwarding between some of our hotels.  Doing it from hotels is quite easy since the front desk or concierge will fill out the forms and handle the arrangements.  Sending directly to our ship was not a viable option, but assuming you are spending a pre-cruise night in Yokohama, you can simply send it to that hotel.  You can also access the various luggage forwarding services at either Tokyo airport (we did not use this option).  We simply took a taxi from Haneda to our Shinjuku hotel and put our luggage in the taxi.

We never even considered forwarding from home as it is expensive and would have caused me some anxiety.  Since we flew business class, we had few luggage limitations on our flights.  Internal shipping in Japan is relatively inexpensive and can often be done overnight.  In our case, luggage sent from our Tokyo Hotel (had to turn it in at the front desk by 10am) was waiting for us in our Kyoto Hotel.  We also have Apple Air Tags in our luggage which gives us some ability to monitor the transfer process.

We have travelled a lot in Japan.  We always  do  the luggage forewarding - it works perfectly in Japan. Makes it easy using the trains with only carry ons  !!   We usually have enough clothes in our carry on for two  hotel  stays  and send the luggage on to  the hotel  2 stays away.   It is called Takubin.  Just ask at the desk  when  checking in and they will tell you  who in the hotel  organises it -  super easy !

"With the famous Takkyubin delivery service, it is possible to send luggage between two addresses in Japan and have them delivered within 48 hours maximum "

Japanese cruise companies already include the Takkyubin (or Black Cat) luggage slips in the paperwork you get for boarding. Some international crusie lines like Princess or Cunard do accept this form of baggage delivery. You do need to provide a local telephone number for the receiving end and the exakt address, which is easy for a hotel, but more complicated for a ship.

A hotel will only accept delivery of your bags if you have an existing reservation.

I wouid suggest that you contact Silversea (via youur TA) AND the Japanese agent for Silversea to get the details on how to make this happen.
