Island Princess Bow/Forward View

@skynight is correct.  There are no seats on the forward viewing area of Baja and Caribe decks. These forward viewing areas are *usually* open—but the staff can close them if weather conditions dictate.  It can get cold up there, especially for Alaska-type cruises!!  And you probably don’t want to be out there on sea days at all, due to the wind.  But if you’re heading into or out of port, those areas will usually be open.

We've been on the Island Princess thru the Panama Canal and on her sister ship, the Coral Princess, 3 times (Glacier Bay in Alaska twice, the Kimberly in Australia).  We always found those front viewing areas unlocked during 'scenic viewing'.   The doors will most likely be closed but just open them.  At those times the ship is going at a much slower speed which can minimize the wind.  The naturalist, destination expert, etc. will be narrating the visit and can be heard over the public address system (unlike on cabin balconies where you need to keep the sliding door open and the listen to the narration over the television).

We were on Island last month in Greenland. We had a tip from another passenger when sailing through Prince Christian sound that the front balcony area on 10 and 11 would be open. There was no announcement from the bridge, or any official “opening” of the area, but the area was open and probably had no more than 20 people out there. Just keep going forward on those decks, and you can’t miss it.

it was very windy and cold, but the views were incredible.
