Not big drinkers but liked it when we could take drinks to "go"

Carnival does allow you to bring a limited amount of beer and wine onboard, too, to consume in your room/balcony. Factor that into whether to get cheers or not.

Wine only, no beer. One bottle per adult.

I don't believe beer is allowed to be brough on, but I believe a bottle of wine per adult 21+ is allowed.

Which cruise line currently allows you to bring on beer when embarking from a US based port?

DCL allows a 6pk. And unlike Carnival, it's at every port not just embarkation.

Disney...you pay three times as much for the cruise, but you get to bring on a six pack at each port.  If I was offered a free cruise on Disney, I'd turn it down.  Too many Rugrats.

If it helps your decision any, I think the Cheers price is $69.95 per day now.

As Sparks mentioned it's for short cruises only.  Check out what RCI charges with their dynamic pricing policy that fluctuates depending upon ship, time of year and length of cruise.  Carnival's pricing is cheaper.
