VIP status on P&O Australia (Grey cabin key card)

Recommended Posts

On the last night of a recent cruise on Explorer a women joined us at Trivia wearing a grey cabin key card.  I had never seen one before and asked her how she got it.  She said that she had done around 15 cruises on P&O Australia.  She also said the only benefit was tender priority which she was reluctant to use because of the abuse from people in the tender queue.

I didn’t fancy enquiring getting more information on this from reception as they were busy.  Instead I would google it the next day when I got home.

The only thing I found was related to the Casino club.

Does any of you more erudite CCers have any more information on the scarce grey card entitlement and privileges?

I am just curious as that was probably our last venture on P&O Oz so I won’t be chasing one.

Priority tendering goes to those in full suites, so that is a clue.

There was talk of a small private lounge being retrofitted to Explorer, which has far less suites. I don't know if this has happened though.

If P&O was going to provide something for loyalty, they would be yelling it at the top of their lungs. There are many on this board that have done at least double that mentioned in post 1 - and beyond.

When I asked why she had a grey card she only mentioned her number of cruises.

I think she denied having a suite when I asked her.

Maybe she did not want to appear to be elitist, or her hubby could be a secretive casino fiend.

The suite answer is probably correct.  She also mentioned that the staff seemed to kowtow when they noticed her card.

I am not too sure of that. The grey card would have been out of sight. A bit like at breakfast on Princess, and you used to spot people with black cards polishing the bottom right corner as if to draw attention to it (the bit that used to show the number of qualifying cruises).

Not personally be me anyway. 😁

I said to a guy one morning after being regaled about their wonderous travels, then asked if it was our first cruise - your card should be clean by now, it only says 17. The medallion doesn't have that number displayed, am happy with that and aren't fussed with numbers. I don't see people polishing their medallions in public. 🤣

Elites get complimentary medallion polishing, like the shoe shine, lol.
