Thought I read somewhere that you can buy their used cards?

We've gotten ship's discarded casino cards for free on our past cruises. Enquire at the casino casher desk if these are available. 

Also I've seen them in the ship's library for use by guests.

I believe the Op is talking about playing cards that are used and discarded for card games, e.g. Blackjack, etc.  I remember years ago when we stayed/played at Bally's Las Vegas we were able to buy their used playing cards for a $1 at the Casino Cashier and there was a hole punched in the center of the deck.  Now I see them sold in Casino gift shop at a premium.🤣

Oh, I have a bunch of those around somewhere.  My grandfather used to bring home the excess cards from when he volunteered at the VA Hospital.  They'd get so many of those donated that they littered the place.
