We are arriving at LHR from Reykjavik  at 16:00 and departing next day from Tilbury port at 18:00.  DH would like to travel to Windsor and stay the night.  Get early entry tickets to the Castle the next morning.  Spend about 3 hours at Windsor then take the train into town, followed by train from Fenchurch Street  to Grays.  Is this remotely possible?  We will be traveling with a carry on bag and backpack each.  Thanks

With the state of British Railways at the moment ? 😁  Strikes are becoming frequent

Not living in that area, but having visited it, I personally wouldn't risk it.

If you are sailing at 6pm you will probably need to be on board by 5pm ... rush hour.

Thanks.  Sometimes things look easy on paper but reality is different.

Is this an overnight port-of-call or a change from one cruise ship to another?

JB 🙂

We are sailing a TA NYC-Iceland.  Then flying to UK to board next cruise making this an overnight  stay between cruises.  I am more in favor of leaving LHR and heading toward the Fenchurch Street area for the night - any other suggestions.

That second cruise starts from Tilbury?

If so, its a simple train ride from Fenchurch station..

And plenty to see in the area including the Tower of London, Tower Bridge, and St Katharine's Dock.

South of Fenchurch St station is more interesting than north.

Tube station and hoho stop at Tower Hill.

But not so easy from LHR.

Needs at least one change on the tube - several options where, but because you'll have luggage I'll leave a Londoner to suggest the easiest, though it's also going to depend on the location of your hotel
