Travelling with young adults - cabin options

Hi

We are looking at making a family group booking for next year.

My brother sister in law will be bringing their two children aged 20 and 18 and we are hoping to get them in their own room.  I read that Princess have a minimum age of 21 for adults in there own cabin, but then also read that this lowered to 16 if travelling as a family group.  We are looking at balcony cabins, a friend advised me that we might have to make the booking with one adult listed in each room with one of the children and swap around after sailing, not sure how this would work with the medallions as they are programmed to specific rooms.

Also we are looking at booking the cruise only rate for the kids as they will be too young to benefit from the drinks package and don't think the other perks will appeal to them.

Does anybody have experience of doing something similar recently? Any tips are appreciated.

Ben

Princess provides the minimum age requirements in their Cruising with Family & Kids FAQ: As long as both people under 21 are traveling with a parent or legal guardian, the two people over 16 can be in their own cabin. So you do not need to swap onboard.

If you wanted to swap, the medallion would not be problem. Guest Services can program a medallion to open additional cabins if requested - and authorized by a guest in that cabin.

If you want to book Princess Plus or Princess Premier, you would need to do so for the first two people registered in a cabin. This is probably the main reason two book the 18 and 20 year olds in their own cabin - so that the guests in another cabin can have Plus or Premier.

Even though the younger guests will probably want wifi, you won't have to pay it. The one-device wifi plan for Plus or the four-device plan for Premier is for one or four devices per person at the same time. You can share these logons as long as you aren't using more than one - or four - at the same time. If you book Premier in one cabin, you should have enough devices for them to share, and you may be able to do with just Plus if you're not all online at the same time. Remember this is just for Internet - you don't need a plan to use the onboard network.

If you book two adjoining balcony cabins, in most cases you should be able to get the steward to open the divider between the two balconies. You need to check to make sure that this works for your cabins, since there are some that will not open. You could also look at getting a balcony for you and an inside across the hall for the two kids if you were looking to save some money.

Thankyou, Sounds like we can do as we planned.

Great tip on the wifi, I hadn't thought of that.

Do not book two cabins with a different high-level digit (like a 496 and a 502) because there is a fire wall and no adjoining balconies.  Book like 502 and 506 - whatever is together on the deck plan with same high-order digit.

Also, if booking PLUS for the parents/adults, you can upgrade one of the 1-device Internet plans included in the package to a 4-device plan and then you have 5 total connections which is MUCH better IMO than expecting two youngers to be sharing a single connection.

Also, is the 20-year old going to be 21 by the time you sail (you said a cruise for next year).  Anyway, there is no issue have those two on own booking.

There is even another workaround for this.  Book everyone Standard.  Swap cabins upon boarding.  Upgrade adults to Plus on board Day 1.  Same cost, but you have paid less travel insurance if you buy that and OBC can offset cost of Plus.

How do you do this?  How much would it cost with the loyalty discount?  Always wondered if that was possible.  Won't need it ... this time.  Good to know information.

Thanks

It's offered in the Princess App after boarding.  And, yes, it should reflect the 50% off if eligible.  It's the difference between 1-device cost and 4-device cost.

Thank you

We have a deal in the UK at the minute that puts premier at the same price as plus, so wanting to book with that.

My nephew will be 20 next year... think he will be a little disappointed when he realises that he will be under the US drinking age.
