Canaries from Tenerife

I can speak to a fly cruise to the Canaries in November 2023, not on Azura but on Marella. We have done 4 of these. The Azura is always berthed in Tenerife when we have been there and as our balcony overlooked the Azura we know the situation well. Marella use TUI flights but I think P&O use Jet2. Our worst experience was flying into and out of Tenerife just a couple of weeks ago. Previously we have used Gran Canaria which was fine and also has a shorter coach transfer from airport to ship. We need wheelchair assistance and it was this in Tenerife that completely ruined our holiday this time.  Help in Gran Canaria was excellent and at Manchester it is also excellent.

We flew out to join Azura in Tenerife January this year. Flying from Bristol, our flight was with Jet2.

We needed to collect our luggage on arrival and take it with us to the coach for the transfer to the port, which is a journey time of about 45mins to an hour, depending on traffic.  Cases were unloaded from the coach onto cages, transfered to the ship and delivered to cabins. Check in was a smooth process, through security and then to check-in.

We have done a number of fly cruises in the Canaries which went into December and the ports were lovely in the evenings with the Christmas lights on.  We especially like Tenerife, which we have been in over night a few times and have also been in the city when the lights were turned on (I think at the start of December). We also love La Laguna at Christmas time - you can take a tram up to La Laguna (about half an hour and a regular service), but will be a fair bit colder up there, so take coats if you go - nice to stay as the lights go on there, very atmospheric.  If you go up to Madeira, that is also very atmospheric at Christmas time, especially after dark if you do not have an early dart.

Weather generally still fairly good, but not necessarily "lying in the sun" weather.  We got drenched in the old town in Gran Canaria once, though not really had a lot of rain at that time.

We have only been once with P&O (Azura) towards the end of a trans-location cruise from the Med, so October then, though we like the Canary ports as they are easy to DIY, either in the port itself, or by hopping on a bus - but we know them very well.

We’ve been twice on the Azura from Tenerife, Nov 22 & Jan 24 and enjoyed both trips

Slightly different itineraries although docked in Madeira on both cruises. Weather was great both times, particularly this January and most islands have enough to do just walking/shuttle off the ship

Just bear in mind with P&O I think there is always an overnight docking in Santa Cruz on the Friday so shops/casino out of action on your first or last night

Transfers from Tenerife South Airport to the port were fine takes about 45 minutes. Cases come on the coach with you then delivered to the cabin. We personally get off the ship on the overnight stay and enjoy going to an Indian restaurant just across from where you are docked unless we are going home then we go the MDR for the last night. Returning home leave cases outside the cabin night before next see them back in the UK that is if you are flying Jet2/TUI once you arrive at the airport you can go straight through security since they check you in onboard. any other airline you collect cases in the terminal building then proceed to a check in desk at the airport. Madeira is a late sail same with Gran Canaria.

Did exactly this but in February, really enjoyed this and have already booked for next year.
