OBSERVATIONS FROM THE POOP DECK SEASCAPE

Recommended Posts

Had a great first dinner. The menus are bound in a nice new leather. Everything went like clockwork. We allowed our butler to escort us to dinner. Our table can be turned at least three times allowing others that dine later to enjoy the view of the TopSail Lounge. Our butler must have been called when we finished because he was right there outside the restaurant to escort us to the show. We thanked him but told him we just wanted to walk around a bit outside the confines of the YC. Went instead to the Cabaret Rouge. Very attentive. Earlier today I had him escort me to the One Pool Deck to show him what pergola we would like. It was presently occupied. As long as it is not being occupied by another RS or OS, he will reserve it for us for the rest of week and have it stocked with whatever we desire. We did not get service like this in our Regent Grand Suite a few weeks ago. I will need my head examined to ever consider another Regent cruise again.

There is a very talented group in the Cabaret Rouge this trip. We are impressed and pleasantly surprised. The band, the MC, the violinist, and a very ( I felt Streisandish) female vocalist that is part of the vocal cast in the Chora Theatre and does this part time gig in CR.

Decided to leave the Cabaret Rouge with its continuous lineup and head over to the Chora Theatre to the performance of "Imagineocean". A different cast than a few months ago. Even more entertaining than before. So far the elevators are working fine, with no long waits. Our over ride of the elevator system is not working for YC guests so we left the show a little earlier to catch the elevator back up to deck 16 otherwise we would have stayed for the entire show.

Do you think that the terminal will be completed on time? Both the new RCCL and NCL terminals were [significantly] late.

Was going to ask our favorite YC porter this question for you today. They sent him over to Carnival because someone complained he kept a cigar butt in his mouth while he collected luggage. He never would smoke it while working. Some people do not understand  the emotional support some grownups get by having a grown up pacifier in the form of a stogie to suck on. So in the meantime we will have to rely on rumors instead of gossip. And the last rumor I heard was April 2025 the same day as the World America is christened.

You needn't 'tiptoe through the tulips' here. "The phrase "tiptoe through the tulips" means...

To me, Tiptoe Through The Tulips means one thing and one thing only. Tiny Tim.

Oddly enough, T. Tim's peculiar rendition was not the most successful release of this song.

The original was released in the late 20s by Nick Lucas, a performer not unlike Rudy Vallée and the song was #1 for more than ten weeks.

Oh dear!  Such a distressing thing to read from you Morph!  Our Grandeur cruise is next April. DH says he’s looking forward to high brow service. I’ve told him to temper his expectations. 😳

Awesome!

This seems 'up your alley' to not just interact but to educate in your own special way.  For example, we read the daily menus and the special breads and the noted healthy specials.  So, 'we asked him about them' and he was, well, not prepared (the first couple of times; thereafter, he read them ahead of time).

Then we chided.

The bread special (we don't do bread*) one day was with cranberries.  That was wrong - the 's' being specific.  We took one to inspect with him. There was -1- piece of diced cranberry on the outside of the bread.  That was it.  He laughed.  The next day it was 6 grain seed special, we asked was it just the -6- seeds or were there more.  He now knew our game and said he talked to the chef and they were all in the bread.  It was quite fun.

* sans sourdough, a resistant starch, which we explained the purported digestive system difference to (bewildered).

The same with the daily health specials.

Lastly, when an 'upscale customer' was personally seated by the MD and overly pampered 😉 we heard him state to them "tonight we have a good menu."  So, we told Tristan and asked if we could know the nights remaining that had the 'bad menus.'  Again, big smile.

Have fun, enjoy, we're reading along.

Again, big smile

We stopped 'your' Tristan and asked him if he recalls you. My description of you brought a smile to his face. "Yes", he said, "they were just on a few cruises ago. They are big repeat cruisers like you." Are they nice people? I asked. "Yes, very nice people."  Thank you for being very nice people. It's always a 'touchy' situation if the people you ask about turn out to be ne'er-do-wells and the drink on his tray doesn't 'accidentally' fall off his tray into my lap.

We were as well. Looking forward to a higher level of service. If you are traveling in 'gen pop' and enjoy getting up early to chair hog, or stand in line, you'll be fine. But if you have been spoiled by Yacht Club butlers you are in for a shock.

Umm...I didn't witness this myself...but "on the social media" site, it was reported that there was chair hogging in YC on Mera last week.  I'm not sure if the person meant "no loungers available" or just people left stuff on "prime loungers" for hours without being there.

Maybe this is what happens when people from "gen pop" upgrade to YC!

I am happy to report that the pastries are back to culinary sweet standards. The donut I had this morning, along with a croissant, a chocolate danish, and a berliner were excellent. The donut was even a bit different in a very good way. The omelet/omelette was better than I remember having on Regent. I noticed right away the flavor of the cheese in this one. I spent a whole week on Regent asking myself, where's the cheese in this omelet? This new Chef Sean is alright. He is right on par with Chef Lisa. Tomorrow I think I will try one of every danish on the tray presented, instead of 12 of one kind.

This is an excellent point.

No one wants to unwittingly say to a crew member, "By the way, that mustache-twirling villain who made your life difficult three cruises ago says, 'Hello.'"

Our butler had our favorite pergola prepared this morning after breakfast. Beautiful breezy day with new grey type curtains which block out more sun. Tipped the pool attendants to weave some towels as a sun block on back wall of pergola. Haven't run into many unruly children this cruise. There is a group of freeYC cruisers cruising from the high rollers club. One gentleman is on every two weeks for free. He has made gambling his occupation. Yesterday the chef was cooking up 4 varieties of fresh fish at the One Pool Grill for lunch, just like at the Explora Emporium, besides the standard precooked entrees at the One Pool buffet.

On another thread there were aspersions cast upon a Yacht Club concierge. I was shocked because we have had nothing but good experiences with said concierge. Brought up subject with another frequent YC cruising couple on board with us. They read the same accounts and were just as shocked. The subject came up when we asked about the absence of the very affable YC porter Clarence S. who was transferred due to a cigar butt hanging from his mouth. We both had similar dealings with this always genial YC concierge. I asked them had they ever had misdealings with said concierge ? "No, never" was their reply. "Same here" was our reply. I suppose there are always 4 sides to every story.

I read that too with interest since I’ll be on that ship on 5/5. It wasn’t just one person having issues with him. For a very short thread there were 3 people who were unhappy with him. That makes me think there is probably something to it and I was happy to get the heads up. We’ll soon find out!

Please report back. It would be very interesting to have your perspective of any encounter.

I will.I’ll try to remember to come back to this thread! Have a wonderful cruise. We are very excited to try MSC Yacht club. We have been in the NCL Haven in the past and from all I’ve read this will be much better.

Great.  Thanks so much.  We brought out or got a smile out of him several times a night, as well as the waiter 'Killa' and the head waiter ('dicshey, left after 9 months back to Mauritius at end of our B2B) who was 'the gold standard' for us in the YC.  On our last night all three came up to us as we stood to leave to give big hugs!
