Timing to return to Civitavecchia

Looking at a three hour tour of Sistine Chapel, St. Peters that begins at 2:30. If we finish at 5:30/6:00 am I cutting it too close to take the train back to Civitavecchia when our ship leaves at 8:00?

Have you looked at the train schedule on trenitalia.com? That is going to be your best info. I think you are going to be stressing.

Just looked and it won't work. Time to search for another tour!

If the tour ends in the Sistine chapel, and if you cannot exit from there into the basilica, you'd have to walk back to the entrance which takes about 30 minutes, due to crowding in the museums.  That means you'd hit the street around 6:30 PM facing a half hour walk to the Roma S. Pietro station (1.9 km/1.2 miles), so the earliest train you could count on making would be 7 PM.  There is one at 19:02 (7:02 PM) that arrives to Civitavecchia at 20:00, too late for you.

Sadly, you are right... Looking for an earlier time.
