Bringing beer onboard from FFL (embarkation)

I know these topics come up a lot but I was thinking that the revenue lost to some one bring stuff on is probably less than the revenue lost by taking a booking from a non-drinker so the revenue argument is total "dogs dangly bits" as we say in the UK.

Now we don't bother if flying and I cannot be bothered to carry beer in port but when driving it is no effort at all to stick an extra case in the car. we pull up at the treminal and the next time we see it is outside the cabin. Why bother with extra carry on.

I phoned princess UK today to find out the spirits situation since the list has gone from the pre-cruise purchase. Turns out we would not have been able to pre-order in the UK anyway and was told can still get on-board at the same price

Does anyone know(traveled recently) if you can still order/get from bar on board at the $20+ish ltr still.

I live in Ohio and work for a beer distributor. Obviously we have to fly to Florida (or elsewhere) for our cruise. Since it's cheaper to get my beer here, I've always packed a few 12's in my checked luggage and have never had any problems on either Carnival or Celebrity. I just put them in a suitcase that upon returning is filled with things that we've purchasedor our dirty laundry.

On our cruise with Carnival in '98, we traveled with a group of over 130, now remember where I am from(south Louisiana). On our stop in Tampa, a few of the men in our group(20 or so) came back on the ship with over 50 cases of beer. It was hilarious to watch, and they stacked them up inside their cabins and drank every last one before the end of the cruise. Now I know what some will say about "lost revenue", but these same people had some of the largest tabs for the week, most over $1000.00 each.

I wish we had taken our own on board, we might have saved alot of $$, our tab was $1540.00 for the week(excursions included), more than we paid the cabin. The cruise line made lots and lots of money that week from a bunch of rule breaking, tacky, penny pinching, fun loving, CAJUNS!!

We had a balcony room on the CP and wanted to enjoy drinks out there, went to publix down the street the night before & brought 12 bottles of wine, 2 cases of beer. Had no problem. needed more beer so each stop we would buy more 12 packs...no problem. we brought a bottle of wine each night to dinner and they charged us $10.00 which i had no problem paying. I drank what i liked and still payed less.

If you can't afford to spend 3 or 4 dollars for a beer, you shouldn't be on a cruise. You are in fact reducing the ship's revenue which in turn drives the price up. Would you sneak a beer into your favorite restaurant?

I buy my drinks when I'm in bars and public places; when I'm in my room I like to drink my own booze. I do the same thing at land based resorts; I would never sneak booze into a bar BUT in my own room....my business!

First of all, the rules don’t say you may bring the stuff on board – you were talking beer and soda, Princess says you can bring wine or champagne. As for bullying you, I was only responding to your post – I thought the interchange of opinions was the reason for this forum…perhaps I’m mistaken. But it’s interesting that first you call me a control freak and now a bully – again, instead of calling people names, perhaps a fair debate of the topic is more appropriate.

Actually Princess says Wine and Champagne are OK NO hard liquor,

if you ask about beer they often say it's o.k (depending who you ask)

anyway we just bring beer and a bottle on board at the first port, don't hide it and if Princess lets it through who are you to argue? I buy my beer in restaurants and bars and by the pool. My room is my domicle and in any hotel or land based resort I'm entitled to have a drink of my own in my room. I just go with that, it's reasonable and sorry you can't make me feel guilty about it.

They now are charging for fresh brewed coffee – and there’s an uproar about it

Quote from bdjam

If the food and drink is unpalatable , which is totally controled by the cruise line ,then of course the answer is to charge for what you used to provide as part of your cruise fee. We now have on cruise lines , for fee, Ice cream , sodas coffee, other fruit juices, dining rooms etc. The cruise lines ports are shifting from major piers to freight docks, ore & bannana docks, many with limited or no shoreside amenities. All of this if what I read on these threads is in order to keep down the price of cruising, and incidently raise the profit for the cruise lines. I have no problem being priced out of cruising. When the price gets to high I will quit, but if I pay the price I expect that I should be able to have a good cup of coffee, a choice of common juices , a soft drink and a reasonable dining expierence , and a place to get off the ship that doesn't require me to sell my watch to get to town. At some point I feel that for the price offered and the amenities provided for that price I will quit cruising. It hasn't got there yet but who knows about next year. Now that I've had my rant I feel better. Bill

I just finished a cruise on the Caribbean Princess (Jan 14-21, 2007) and carried on a case of beer in a soft sided cooler bag. They scanned it, and the 3 bottles of wine I had in another carry on bag, and not a word was said. Nice to have in my cabin, and since my wife, daughter, and 3 grandchildren were also on this cruise, is was merely for cost savings, not get the stupid function.

Given that I was paying for a cruise for 6 people, excursions for 6, onboard tipping account for 6 was not a factor.... I doubt the policy changes based on the generated revenue any group of PAX, and it's simply a matter of accepting that they can refuse to allow you to bring these items on board, at thier discretion.

Be courteous and forthright with your carry on when boarding, and I doubt you'll have a problem.

I don't drink coffee.

I do drink beer.

How can Princess discriminate against beer drinkers, and not wine or champagne drinkers? If I packed a suitcase full of wine, it's ok, and Princess would still lose out in alcohol revenue. What is the difference between wine and beer? It just doesn't make sense.

Don't worry, Princess will get some money out of me one way or another, in tropical drinks, pictures, bingo, casino, etc, etc, etc...

Laura

Bought a small piece of luggage on rollers whcih people use as a carry on. But fully expanded it holds 52 cans of Coors Light. Tip porter well so they can get there shoulder fixed removing it from cab though. Do I run a bar bill and buy stuff in the shops and then book excursions and pay for my cruise? You betchya but do enjoy my beer when I want and where I want. Never on deck but love company. Enjoiy laura and go for it. Actally that little bugger will be dusted off and on the Sea Princess in about 10 days...:)

I think you are pushing it with a case of beer. Most people bring their liquor in their carry on. I think you may be flaunting it to try and hoist a case of beer on the ship.

What will you do if they confiscate it? You'd be better off trying to conceal a smaller amount in a piece of luggage instead of a case and buying more at a port.

They do sell beer by the bucket on the ship. It wasn't that expensive doing it that way.
