Kimmarie Posted June 29, 2004 #1 Share Posted June 29, 2004 Has anyone out there chartered a fishing boat in St Thomas? Kids and Husband want to go and don't have a clue as to how to go about it. Any help will be appreciated---leaving Saturday on the CP, so time is short....Thanks
wwinfl91 Posted June 30, 2004 #2 Share Posted June 30, 2004 Here are a few links I found by doing a Google search on "charter fishing boats St Thomas USVI". I will just list a couple here but there were a bunch of them. I'm not sure how great the fishing is around St Thomas but I'm sure you would get some great views of the Islands. Hopefully you can find one you want. I was a little amazed at what some of them cost but maybe that is what a charter boat costs everywhere. Have a GREAT cruise. gaa2 Posted June 30, 2004 #4 Share Posted June 30, 2004 You might contact the concierge at one of the hotels (Ritz Carlton, Marriott, Renaissance, etc) and tell them that you are planning a trip and ask who they recommend to their guests. We had a land-based vacation once for a week at Frenchman's Reef and did some charters for day sails. Their recommendations were great.
imsulin Posted June 30, 2004 #5 Share Posted June 30, 2004 From what I've observed, deep sea fishing for game fish off of St. Thomas isn't that great, and since it's a US territory, you can expect US prices. Days sails would probably be a lot cheaper! (Sorry - I guess I assumed you were asking about fishing for game fish!) Good luck to you!
Kimmarie Posted June 30, 2004 Author #6 Share Posted June 30, 2004 My husband wants to surprise my 14 year old who is a fishing fanatic. He wants to take the boys (3) off shore fishing for the experience. I know its expensive, but we have never been to the carribbean or on a cruise and I guess he wants to do it up. It will be the first (cruise) and probally the last, for our kids anyway. Thanks for all the input.
yotopia Posted September 11, 2004 #7 Share Posted September 11, 2004 I too am looking for an option of possibly fishing in St Thomas during my cruise, if anyone finds out more info with cheaper prices other than a boat for myself let me know. See ya YOurs in YO John
lostdart58 Posted September 11, 2004 #8 Share Posted September 11, 2004 Sportfishing in the Virgin Islands, or for that matter anywhere in the Caribbean is a very fickle thing at best. it is also very expensive. Then there is the problem of being here on a cruise ship. You tend to catch more fish early or late in the day. Fishing during these times is impossible if you are off a cruise ship. That being said, fishing around the full moon is a good idea. The fish bite more around the full moon. Find a boat that will use live bait. The fish will bite more. Check the St Thomas port of sail boards; there is a thread there that list many fishing charter boats.

JanetMarie Posted September 11, 2004 #10 Share Posted September 11, 2004 I agree that the fishing can be difficult and would prefer to take an America's Cup sailing venture!
