Irons?

Can you get irons from the cruise ship???

NO!

Irons in your cabin are considered FIRE HAZARDS!

Three NCL ships have self service laundrys with irons and ironing boards. They are the Dawn, Jewel, and Pride of Hawaii.

Every self sevice laundry has more fire suppression systems installed than your cabin. It's the extra fire suppression systems in the self service laundrys that make irons safe in them. Likewise, there's extra fire suppression systems in the ship's main laundry. Like every laundry you'll find ashore, they use pressing machines to iron clothes.

I can see you trying to iron your clothes atop the bed, at least scorcing your clothes, the linens, and the mattress, as you get distracted by sighting a whale or dolphins outside your window; assuming they don't catch on fire.

Do you iron your clothes on your beds at home? Do you use an ironing board at home? Are you planning on packing an ironing board with your bags? Why do you think the cruise line will have ironing boards for use in your cabins when they don't have ironing boards in the main ship's laundry?

You're on vacation, it's not the time to throw common sense out the window!

I get your point and I guess I didn't have enough info in my post. I knew I wouldn't be able to iron in my cabin. I guess I should have stated it different asking if there is anywhere you can iron on the ship.

If your ship does not have a self-service laundry room, you can have your items pressed by the ship's drycleaning dept.

Many people hang wrinkled clothes in the bathroom and run the shower. The steam will smooth the wrinkles, or bring a travel clothes steamer. They are allowed.

I've only cruised once but I didn't find out that irons were forbidden till we got back in port. We bought a very small travel iron, and it worked fine for us. I can't imagine wearing a suit or tuxedo without ironing the shirt, and many of my resort casual clothing needs ironing as well. I can not -wait- for our cruise - I hope they don't take our travel iron away.

Gee electricron, are you having a bad day? Your reply seems alittle on the snippy side. I believe that travelers frequent this website to find information, like myself. I'd say the vast majority of replies are polite. Cruises are different from other vacations and some people aren't in that mindset. I had to think twice about the "iron thing", but in some respects, I don't quite grasp why a travel steamer would be acceptable. ( You could leave that on the bed accidentally and go to dinner, what would happen then...........

I'm so grateful NOT to be on your cruise!

After calling the NCL America information line, we found out that irons were not allowed onboard. We found out that they would allow handheld steamers on board though, so we purchased one at Bed Bath and Beyond. The steamer proved to be a waste of money and found that packing clothes very neatly and hanging clothes in the bathroom while showering was the best way to unwrinkle clothes while onboard.

First, travel steamers heat the steam usually within a plastic bottle, not a metal surface that conducts heat approximately ten times better.

Second, how many times do we have to repeately answer the OP's question?

Third, I can't believe someone would ask the same question again - after it's been answered in the exact same thread.

It seems some don't like the answer given.

And by th eway, I bet this question has been answered over a hundred times in the last year. You know, it doesn't hurt to search for an answer first. To prove my point, here's a search just on the NCL forum for irons:

If my wife finds an iron packed with our other stuff on a cruise...I better be duckin' outta the way of a low flying iron! Some things aren't meant for a cruise (especially if she figures out I won't be the one using it) LOL

I would rather trust a fellow cruiser to use a travel iron (specifically designed for lower heat, travel use) once or twice on their cruise, than a person smoking in their cabin any time they wanted. Now that's a real fire hazard, but I guess if the cruise lines make money by allowing it then it's ok. The logic escapes me here. Myself, I think I would be able to handle carefully doing some touch up ironing without setting fire to the ship. :)

If the op's are new to the board how would they know what has been posted already? Remember, to do a search you would need to be experienced with CC. Just take it easy and if a question bothers you so much, then don't answer it.. Very simply.. :D

I don't understand why people seem to be determined to ignore the rules set out by the cruiseline. It seems like a large share of these boards is dedicated to ways to get around the rules they've agreed to. Is it "getting away with something" or just selfish and irresponsible?
