burger40 Posted August 9, 2006 #1 Share Posted August 9, 2006 I hear that NCL lets 18-20 yr. olds purchase beer and wine as long as their parents sign a waiver...is this true?
Marlissa Posted August 9, 2006 #2 Share Posted August 9, 2006 From NCL's website: What about smoking, drinking and gambling on the ship? Smoking is permitted in designated areas in the bars and outside on open decks. All other areas on board ship are non-smoking. Guests must be age 21 to purchase or drink alcohol** however ages 18 years to 20 years may purchase and consume beer and wine only with a completed parental consent form. This policy is not applicable to the NCLA vessels or Hawaii and Alaska itineraries. This form must be given to the reception desk on board the vessel by the parent or guardian accompanied by the young adult with proof of age and relationship. Guests must be age 18 to gamble on the ship. If a guest under age 18 wins in the casino and cannot provide proof of age, he or she will not be paid the winnings. There is no casino aboard Pride of Aloha, Pride of America and Norwegian Wind. Guests are not allowed to bring on board the vessel any alcoholic beverages of any kind. **With the exception of Alaska and Hawaii itineraries, NCL permits guests between the ages of eighteen (18) and twenty (20) to purchase and personally consume wine and beer while on NCL ships with the consent of a parent or legal guardian (“Parental Consent”). Complete details and the Parental Consent form are available on board at the Reception Desk. and if you want to see it on NCL's website: http://www.ncl.com/more/fp_mi_w2n.htm
cruisetexas Posted August 9, 2006 #3 Share Posted August 9, 2006 We just returned from the Star with two twenty year olds. I had down loaded and printed/signed the waiver but never took it to the reception desk. They had no trouble purchasing alcohol...pina coladas, rum and coke, etc., although we were always with them when they were ordering, so maybe that made a difference. diamondf467 Posted August 10, 2006 #4 Share Posted August 10, 2006 We are sailing on the Pride of Hawaii 8/21. I emailed regarding the form for the 18 to 20 year olds. They told me that the form is not available anymore on line and we can get the form when we get on to the ship. Iris

It's against the law of the State of Hawaii, and Alaska too, to sell any form of alcohol to minors. The legal drinking age is 21. Read the NCL website quote once more...... "With the exception of Alaska and Hawaii itineraries, NCL permits guests between the ages of eighteen (18) and twenty (20) to purchase and personally consume wine and beer while on NCL ships with the consent of a parent or legal guardian (“Parental Consent”)." Exception of is clearly written.

Can i order if we are having a dinner?... What you do at the dinner table is your business. I hope you enjoy sharing your wine goblet spreading germs amongst yourselves. But since she is less than 18, forget NCL serving her any wine anywhere aboard the ship! The official NCL policy from their web site has been posrted twice. Shucks, even a 20 year old can't order wine in Alaska and Hawaii, why would you think they would serve a 216 year old? GET REAL! Local communities in America, and States, control the alcohol laws. You wouldn't want your waiter caught and arrested for serving alochol to a minor?
