Explorer of the Seas Bermuda 9-3-06

Just returned from Bermuda on the Explorer of the Seas out of Bayonne, NJ. We had a fabulous time! We had excellent dining room service and cabin attendants. The food was delicious. There isn't one thing that I had that was very good.

This was our first cruise as diamond members and I can't tell you how wonderful the concierge lounge is and how GREAT Carlos (the concierge) is. It took excellent care of us.

The shows on this ship were some of the best we have seen. The singers were excellent and the costumes and sets were as good as any broadway show.

P.S. We bought diet coke, bottled water and a liter of rum right in our carry on and no questions were asked.

any new bedding yet, we are on deck 10

We just got back too. We were in 1390, aft cabin. No new bedding but we saw a bunch in the hallways.

The old bedding didnt look or feel too comfy, but we all slept like babies. No complaints there!

Have a blast, we sure did.

Welcome back and glad that you had a great cruise.:)

DH/I will be leaving in nine days for our first B2B cruise as well as our first cruises as Diamond members. Would like to hear about the perks, Concierge Lounge, coupon books, etc. Anything you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Curious on the different perks from Platinum to Diamond.

How was the food in the Windjammer, Johnny Rocket's and Portofino if you ate in any of them.

Thank you and welcome home!

Sea ya!

We felt vibrations, there was a little bit of soot and paint scrapings( no big deal), and some noise from other passengers that could have happened on any deck.

We loved the cabin and the location was excellent!! You will LOVE it!

The CD was Ashley .... (forgot her last name sorry). She was very good, the entertainment was also pretty good. I was also in the Concierge room, had a Grand Suite. We are also platinum. We had the best waiter we have ever had in the 6 cruises my wife and I have been on and the 13 cruises my SIL and BIL were every on. His name was Clavian, "Monte" was his nickname. Second night I asked for shrimp cocktail, which was not on the menu and he went and got me two set ups and did the same for each of the remaining 4 nights! He did many things to meet our unique requests and never said he had to check or complain about anything. A wonderfull waiter and his new asst was named Darryl (short for something else... :o) who was on the job for 15 days and also did a great job. The ship was not full which made it a bit more comfortable and we had 4 sunny days and only 1 cloudy day so all in all it was great. We also had an unusual event which occurred around 10pm the first night and for those who went up to deck 11 it was a sight to see. We had to slow down to a pretty low speed for an emergency medical transport which required a bright orange coast guard helo to follow the ship for apx 20 min until they could match speed and then set down on the bow of the ship. Within 10 minutes they loaded a patient and off then went. It was something to see and makes me proud that we have men and women in the services who are there to help us out when we are in trouble!

Thats about all I can think of now, any other questions fire them back.

They removed the benchs and the ropes that hold the flags. We were unable to see them come down all the way to the deck as they held us on deck 11 and did not allow us to go to the deck with the peak a boo bridge but we did get to see it down to about 5 feet above the landing pad. They did a hot load (kept the rotors moving) and loaded up and were off. I had two coast guard folks (husband and wife) from Atlantic City next to me who said they actually work with the crew and they gave us a play by play that was quite interesting.

I'll be on the Explorer on Oct 29th and I'm happy to hear that all is well aboard her! Who was the director and was he/she any good?

Thanks!

The cruise director was Ashley, can't remember her last name. She was pretty good.

No new bedding yet, but at the Diamond Member party they said the whole ship would have new bedding soon. We were on deck 7.

The coupon books had free any size photos, free mixed cocktails, a lot of casino coupons, free ben and jerrys, but the best perk for us was the concierge. The food in the Windjammer was pretty good. I enjoyed the Jade section the most and the omelet station. We ate Johnny Rockets and enjoyed that as well. Didn't go to Portofino's because the food in t he dining room was fantastic.

We rented mopeds in Bermuda and if you decide to rent one be very careful. My husband says he wouldn't do it again. We were able to explore the island and stopped at Chapel Bay and Horseshoe Bay and had a great time. If you go to Horseshoe Bay walk past the main beach and there is a beautiful section with rock formations that form little lagoons that's just amazing!

We also took the ferry to Hamilton which cost $8 roundtrip per person. Hamilton is a big city as far as island go.

As the ship was turning around to go out to sea, we saw a couple of people running up the pier. We felt so sorry for them, but they were really late getting to the ship. I hope they made it home.

Now I'm looking forward to my cruise on the Freedom, but will probably book another cruise on the Explorer for next year because really had a great time.
