GMoney Posted September 8, 2006 #1 Share Posted September 8, 2006 I have a friend who set sail on Explorer's 9night Eastern Caribbean itinerary from Bayonne today. After the muster drill, Capt Groundhog :D announced that they will be skipping the St Thomas stop because Hurricane Florence is in the path they need to sail. Instead, Explorer will stay closer to the US coast to avoid the storm.

Motorman23 Posted September 9, 2006 #6 Share Posted September 9, 2006 I got off the ship this am and they said yesterday that they may miss up too two ports depending on the weather. It may be improving but as of this am they were not sure if they would miss none, one or two ports.
IKE Posted September 9, 2006 #7 Share Posted September 9, 2006 Friends of Ours left today on the "Explorer" and I hope the hurricaine turns so they don't miss thieir " Ports of Call". However, it doesn't look good for them. . Safety is the first priority even though it will be disappointing to passengers looking forward to seeing St. Thomas. It is my favorite island.I wish all the passengers on this particular voyage, calm seas and a great cruise! IKE
yogimax Posted September 9, 2006 #8 Share Posted September 9, 2006 Safety always comes first. Unfortunately, not all passengers realize that it may be necessary to substitute ports or spend days at sea.
