Taking Snacks Onboard

Just wondering if it's allowed and if anyone ever takes snacks or nibblies onboard to have with drinks or for the kids - like chips, lollies, chocolate, nuts etc???

We did but you won't need very much, although if you have kids they want nibbles all the time and it could be easier.

 

I took some all bran bars but didnt even eat one, we took lollies, peanuts were great to eat while we were getting ready also some chips (didn't even finish a box of pringles!).

 

One thing I took that suited us very well is some noodles in a box as my partner has a strange desire to eat a few hours after a really good meal, must have something to do with the alcohol:) also cup a soups, it must be the salty thing he needs.

 

WE also took food from the lunch buffet and brought it to our room as he would require a bit of a snack at around 5ish, the afternoon tea was not a hit with us as it was very much sweets orientated, so I grabbed some rolls and put them into into a glad bag.

 

I also took a couple of bottles of diet lemonade as I often just have a sip during the day or night and that was great for us.

 

Take what you need but there is plenty of food, you be the judge but as I said I know my partner and we grabbed a few things for him. We did order a pizza one night for him but we couldn't finish it, sometimes you just need a little snack:)

We've always taken nibbles for the kids and ourselves and found that most of it has come back home unopened. It is handy to have tho just in case.

Because my husband is diabetic, he took individually packaged snacks, muesli bars etc on the Pacific Sun in June.

 

Our only problem was bringing the uneaten and unopened ones back into Australia. The little Customs beagle sniffer dog sat down next to our bags at the shipping terminal. :eek:

 

So take them, but don't bring them home. :D

we always take soft drinks they are excellent for in between drinks as the orange juice was watered down and constantly buying soft drink as stupid prices is a bit overwhelming. i like saving my money for cocktails:D . and we bought some more in a supermarket in noumea and i was all good to come back on the ship

I honestly believe that with all the yummy food on the cruise, you will not need to bring extra snacks. All that delicious food! :D

 

Of course unless you have kids and must have a snack! :)

Just want to confirm something here please - there are no fridges in the cabins are there? Softdrinks you take onboard would be room temperature wouldn't they? I'm asking about the Pacific Star here.

There are no fridges in regular cabins on either the Star or the Sun. There were in the Suites on the Sky so I assume likewise on these two.

 

You do have an ice bucket in your room which is topped up daily and I used to just toddle down the corridor and fill my own up when we ran out. This can keep your drinks cool.

 

There are also ice dispeners up the the buffet area. I used to fill my water bottle with ice all the time.

One question: I'm a shift worker and often rise very early eg. 4am or worse and it can be a long time until normal breakfast time.

How would I go about getting a cup of tea at this hour? Are there tea/coffee making facilities with milk supplied 24hrs onboard? Or should I plan on bringing my own supplies?

The Lido Buffet's on both Pacific Sun & Pacific Star (not sure which you are cruising on) have free (help yourself) tea & coffee available 24 hrs a day. You won't be able to get any food until about 6am though, when they do breakfasts on deck.

I tend to get hungry just before bedtime, and as we were on first sitting, there was quite a gap! So I used to take small tub of yoghurt back to the room to keep for that night. Problem was, no spoon! So maybe a disposable spoon would be handy.

I suppose I could have taken a spoon bafck to the room too...

I sometimes took plates of food back to the room, so taking a spoon wouldn't be an issue. If I hadn't taken the dirty dishes back to the buffet then the room steward would usually remove them.

Taking your own snacks, drinks etc ( Medical Conditions etc excluded ) is like going to Iraq or Afghanistan and taking your own guns and ammo from home. Like come on guys even P&O Locally ( Just pulling a few chains ) will fill you with all the treats you can possibly eat and then some so its kind of pointless.

 

I can understand sneaking your own booze onboard etc, But bringing your own extra snacks? Come on your going on Holidays take Chill Pill and

take a nice big deep breath, stop stressing and enjoy your vacation!!!!!!

I brought some chips from the Casino (supermarket) in Noumea and took them back aboard - but only because they were a New Zealand brand of chips that I like and we don't have here in Australia.

 

You're right NovemberBravo - there is lots of food available - but I guess for kids it's worth having some quick snacks available in the cabin - there's not a lot of quick snack food for kids on board, unless you want to pay a lot of money in the kiosk for the lollies etc.

Hubby wanted M&M's to nibble on while watching movies in the room, so he bought some from the ship's shop. When we were at Noumea we went into the supermarket and priced them there - about the same price, so we just continued to give our custom to P&O!

As long as you've finished them by the time you get back to Sydney or Brisbane - as you probably won't be allowed to bring them back ashore.
