First ever cruise Sept. 29th, Oosterdam, Panama Canal. We will be in Fort Lauderdale Sun, Oct 17th. Do not fly out until Mon, Oct. 18th. Since we have a full day Sun., what would you suggest we do with our time? Have never been to Florida before. Favorite hotel?? Thanks!

You might consider taking an air boat ride/tour out in the Everglades. Lots of fun.

There is an Embassy Suites not far from the pier. They are reasonable (and you can book via Priceline, 3 1/2 stars) and have an afternoon manager's reception and hot breakfast included.

You can take the airboat ride in the Everglades - we did it and loved it.

Also there is a boat that tours the intercoastal waterways.

We have stayed at the Embassy Suites many times both before and after cruises.

They have a nice pool outside and a small gym.

The managers cocktail party is every evening from 5:30 - 7:30 - free drinks, popcorn and sometimes pretzels.

Breakfast is a full breakfast - eggs made to order, juices, pastries, bagels, pancakes, french toast, creamed chicken and biscuits, cereals (hot & cold), and fresh fruit and yogurt.

It is also close to a Publix, Eckerd's, Winn Dixie, and a lot of other small shops and restaurants.

We like to eat at the Bimini Boatyard.
