Dave -

Thanks so much for the great great review! I think we are very similare cruisers in that we enjoy the total experience and don't focus on the small stuff (carpet, furniture etc) In reading other reviews I'd swear that Mercury was ready to sink but you've convinced me that I made the right decision for next June!

Thank you again and damn you for making me realize what a long time I have left!;) :D

I had some similar concerns (visions of an old scow, barely afloat) but the Mercury's a class act all around.

Have a great cruise,

Dave

Dave,

Do you remember the name of the bartender who worked in the martini bar? Thanks for a great review!

Dean

Hi Dean, I am not Dave but the bartender was the same one

as when I sailed back in May. His name is Brahni, not sure

that is the correct spelling but if you want to see what he

looks like, click on my signature in the YAHOO album.

He is a doll and makes a great drink too:D

Dean,

Lois is right, that's him. I couldn't remember his name but I'll never forget his martini's!! That man is a real artisan (I think the Martini is his true medium:). ) He mentioned to me that he was leaving the Mercury shortly after the repositioning and I wish him all the best.

Lois,

Those are some nice pictures and it looks like you had a great time! I kind of wish I hadn't looked at them though, really made me miss the "Merc." Quick question for you, it looks like youv'e sailed with Celebrity quite a bit and I was wondering how the Mercury compared with some of their other ships? (kinda planning my next cruise.)

Thanks,

Dave

Hi Dave:)

I only started cruising 3 years ago and chose Celebrity from

one of my sister's recommendations.

Honestly, the truth is, I never ever thought I would have

been lucky enough to sail as many times as I have up to this point

in time.

After my first cruise on Century I thought she was the only

ship I would be happy with....glad my thoughts were wrong.

Each ship has her own personality. My biggest problem

is I love them all.

The C Class are smaller with less "extras". Does that bother me?

No.

Would I sail any of them again? Yes.

The M Class does offer those extras. Would I sail them again?

Yes.

Not necessarily because of the extras though. Price is a big

factor for me. If I find something that I can afford and is appealing

to me I would go..no matter which X ship.

As for Mercury, that cruise in May was my 2nd time on her.

I had a marvelous time. The one negative that always stands

out is the size of the Martini Bar. The set up is not good.

Does it bother me? Not really. It is just an observation on my part.

Would I sail her a 3rd time? Yes.

The Martini Bars on the M-Class ships are truely lovely. Spacious

with a real lounge feel to them. The Specialty Restaurants

are excellent too.

I know I sound like one of those Cheerleaders. But I have

always had wonderful experiences. Have small things happened

that were negative? Yes they have. Did I try to take care of them

right away? Yes I did. Was I always successful?...well, they

are so rare, I can't remember.

I did always leave each time knowing I wanted to come back

to sail Celebrity again.

So, whichever ship I was on...Zenith, C class or M....I was happy.

Hope my rambling didn't bore you too much.

LOL:D

Didn't bore me at all, thank you for the information (seems like I always end discussing the Martini Bar doesn't it? I actually did visit other parts of the ship while I was onboard;) ) I'm going to have to do some reasearch on some of the other classes of X ships and give 'em a try, but I feel like I'm going to have kind of a sense of loyalty to the Merc.

That probably sounds silly.

Thanks much for the info Lois.

Take care,

Dave

Dave, it doesn't sound silly at all.

It is the way I felt after sailing Century. And I went back

on her twice after that first cruise:).

I have yet to sail her since they did the major overhaul.

So your loyalty to Mercury sounds perfectly normal to me:D

Hi Dave and All,

Thanks for the great review of my favorite ship - The Mercury.

I'm leaving Friday for a seven day repositioning on the Mercury out of Seattle. Looking forward to my Sky Suite, butler, Cova Coffee Bar, Formal nights, Music, etc. The Mercury is really a beautiful ship.

Gotta Go,

Cruisie

Cruisie,

Ditto what Lois said, if you visit the Martini Bar, tell Brahani that Dave (the guy in the kilt) sends his best.

Have a fine cruise,

Dave

Dave, You originally asked me about the ships...

I was almost afraid of sailing the M class, thinking they would be

too large for me. Glad I was wrong about that too.

They weren't too big.

They are definitely set up differently than the C Class but

both are fine with me:)

He spells it "Brani", Lois. I know because I got his autograph last month. ;) I, too, spent waaaaay too much time in the Martini Bar. :p It's a shame Brani probably won't be on our cruise next year. :(

Hmmmm, seems I wasn't the only one lured by the "Siren's Song" of the Martini Bar. That is certainly a shame he'll be gone, I would have cruised again on the Mercury just to have one (okay several) of his martini's.

Cheers,

Dave

What did I miss last night????? Bububr (the other Dave) tells me he's been permanently banned. Was his transgression on this thread? And I know we aren't supposed to write about it, but was it really that bad? :(

I caught a glimpse of it this A.M. (before it got pulled) and didn't think it was that bad.

:( Hi,

His '' transgression'' was not in this thread. It was on another one dealing with some brawl in Bermuda. I was on line when he posted.....His temper got a little short and he '' let rip'' a bit too angrily.(The contents of his post was...best left alone). Happens to all of us at times...Being banned permanently is however a bit harsh...he is otherwise a very interesting, entertaining and humourous poster .

I suggest our fine moderators might want to give him another chance.

I don't know if I'm out of line with my comments here....and I apologize if I am...No disrespect meant to the moderators and their regulations.

Cheers

Claude,

I read some of that thread - pretty heated stuff. He put a short note in this thread this morning, complimenting a couple he knows, and making a kilt joke (again,) but nothing too off color. His post was pulled while I was answering Juneau. Hope he gets another chance, he seems like good people.

Sincerely,

Dave

Anxious to hear the rest ... we sail in a week on MERCURY. Thanks for the time you've taken to write about your experiences.:)

Nicki

We are set to sail her next fall for Alaska. I have the good and bad about her. Once the "drydock - major or not" takes place in May do you think it will upgrade her alot?

Thanks

Absolutely loved your review and the clever way you had in telling your tale. From the sounds of things, it would be a delight in discovering you and your wife on a cruise with us in the future! Thanks for taking the time to share your cruise saga!
