mountainmare Posted October 1, 2006 #1 Share Posted October 1, 2006 We are leaving in the morning for our first Celebrity cruise on the Millie out of Barcelona. I've searched for tipping--but please I could use your advice. I have my euros and ATM cards for our private tours, but I am wondering about tipping on the ship. Should I: 1) Use the automatic tip taken out of your shipboard account (does Celebrity have this?) 2) Does the ship have an ATM--is it cost effective to use it for the money I need for tipping the traditional way (little envelopes)? 3) Should I just pull the cash out in the morning for the tips? My concern with #3 is that by the time all is said and done I would have a bit more cash on hand in Barcelona than I'm comfortable with, since I want ti use the ATMs there to pull out some euros. I'm assuming that if the ship has an ATM it uses US dollars. Also, should I tip in euros or dollars? If euros, what exchange rate do you use--the published 1.27 (or whatever it is this hour) or the bank rate? My bags are packed....I'm ready to go....standing here beside the door... and this is the last thing to do before I'M LEAVING ON A JET PLANE!!!! Thanks--I'm frazzeled. hancock Posted October 1, 2006 #2 Share Posted October 1, 2006 You can have the tips put on your account. You will get a form to fill out for this purpose. It will have to be returned several days before the end of the cruise. You can add to it for exceptional service.
RodPat Posted October 1, 2006 #3 Share Posted October 1, 2006 Yes there is a ATM on board. You can change US dollars to Euros at the pursers desk on board or when on shore. I found it easier to do it on the ship even though the rate might not be as good. We never use the ATM on board as we just go to the casino and sign for money, no extra charge and then we use it for whatever we want. The cHarge then goes on your sign and travel card, which in turn goes on the credit card that you are using for the cruise. We signed up to have tips put on our charge. They gave us vouchers and envelopes to give out the last night. We put extra cash in the envelopes for exceptional service. Just relax and have a wonderful cruise. Islandbuoy Posted October 1, 2006 #4 Share Posted October 1, 2006 Yes use the automatic tipping--its avoids having to come up w/small bills. Bank on board will take back you extra euros (paper , no coins) Bank on board Connie always ran out of Euros to sell , resulting in having to use ATM's on shore to get Pounds & Euros. mountainmare Posted October 1, 2006 Author #5 Share Posted October 1, 2006 Thanks--now I'm all finished and ready to go!!!! I would be surprised if there are any euros left to exchange back!!!! Have no problem getting extra euros on shore. Let the vacation begin--I'm going to open some Cava to get ready!!!!
