Excursion Tour Operators

Hi

I hope that someone has some info on a certain excursion operator. I have been searching for which tour operators to go with to reserve some of my trips. There are so many out there that it's getting so confusing for me.

Has anyone ever booked through CruiseDirect? They seem to have some really nice tours, but I don't know how reliable they are.

I am looking to do some flight excursions with Glacier landing. The White Pass Railroad trip. I'll be in Juneau, Keitchen & Skagway. Are there any of these ports better to do a flight trip than another?

Since this is my first trip to AL I want to make the best of it.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

CruiseDirect isn't a tour operator, merely a reservation service in Florida. Much better to book direct so you know exactly what you're getting. http://www.explorenorth.com/cruises/alaska_cruise_ports.html will take you to the independent operator and the Chambers of Commerce in each port. Yes, there are a LOT of choices - abouit 90 in Skagway alone! Decide on your interests and priorities first - that makes browsing much more productive and fun.

CruiseDirect sounds like a booking agency and not a tour operator. Many here have been very happy with Coastal in Juneau, which is an indepencent tour operator: http://www.coastalhelicopters.com/

You can book the White Pass railroad in Skagway through the cruiseline or directly through the railroad for a little less: http://www.wpyr.com/schedule.html

Chilkoot Charters combines a one-way trip on the train with a bus return, and they have 3 different rail/bus excursions for 2007: http://www.skagwaysbesttour.com/

I too never recommend any booking agents and always book direct with the vender. There is TEMSCO, Coastal, ERA, Northstar out of Juneau, TEMSCO out of Skagway for helicopter trips. There is only one White Pass RR.
