RayinIllinois Posted January 25, 2007 #1 Share Posted January 25, 2007 The Zuiderdam arrives in Ft Lauderdale around 7am. Our flight departs Ft Lauderdale at 4pm. Don't really want to spend the day at the airport but don't want to wander to far away. Any ideas?
Dieter Posted January 25, 2007 #2 Share Posted January 25, 2007 Some years ago I saw some people after the cruise (I had a b2b-cruise) in the Gallary-Mull. They went there along with their suitcases with HAL-stickers. But this seems not be comfortable. I remember that e.g. Delta picked up the suitcases for domestic flights directly at the ship. When this doesn't work anymore it was a 10-Dollar-taxi-affair to come from ship to airport (Fort Lauderdale). If it is to early for checking in you can deposit all your luggage at special places. I don't remember the fees. The airport transfer from HAL includes tourist tours when the departure is not so early.
Krazy Kruizers Posted January 25, 2007 #3 Share Posted January 25, 2007 HAL does offer a couple of tours at the end of the cruise where your luggage goes on the bus with you and you are dropped off at the airport around 1 PM. One of them is the airboat ride through the Everglades. Did this a few years ago -- fantastic.

Don't really want to spend the day at the airport but don't want to wander to far away. Any ideas? Did you ask HAL about any available shore excursions in Ft. Lauderdale that would be available depending on your flight departure? DW & I did the Hard Rock Resort & Casino shore excursion which was a nice way to spend part of the day awaiting our flight. WindyCity Posted January 25, 2007 #5 Share Posted January 25, 2007 We took a cab to Hard Rock and left our luggage with the bell boys - no fee, but we did give them a tip at the end. We spent the day at Hard Rock - there is food available - a shopping mall behind the casino and, of course, the casino and the Hard Rock Gift Shop. It was nice. We then took a cab to the airport and walked around after dropping off our luggage. Where in Illinois are you? We are transplanted Chicagoans. SandRaven Posted January 25, 2007 #6 Share Posted January 25, 2007 After you spend some time touring, the Ft Lauderdale airport has a fast food stand (near the SouthWest Air departure gates) called "Cheeburger Cheeburger" that has the ultimate artery-clogging junk food: FRINGS. if your body can handle it, I recommend an order of this death food, as they are SOOO good... french fries & onion rings fried in peanut oil. lka1012 Posted January 25, 2007 #7 Share Posted January 25, 2007 Each time after my cruises, there were not enough people to sign up for the excursions, so they were cancelled. Since the Ft. Lauderdale airport does not allow you to even check your luggage until 3 hours before your flight, I have spent the time waiting in the lobby in front of the check in counters for sevveral hours. They are no places you can leave your luggage, and I could not find a resturant in the terminal I was leaving from. FUN! FUN!

Don't really want to spend the day at the airport but don't want to wander to far away. Any ideas? we have rented a car for the day...not expensive...allows you to store your luggage...and tour Fort Lauderdale. Drove up to the butterfly gardens, had a great lunch along the beach, and enjoyed just touring around. We'll be doing this again in April...works well for us. lka1012 Posted January 26, 2007 #9 Share Posted January 26, 2007 Now I never thought of renting a car and touring on my own. Plus, I can "mail my dirty clothes home" also. In the past I've had to pay excess baggage. But I can ship part of my stuff home cheaper.
