cruisinbuddy Posted February 13, 2007 #26 Share Posted February 13, 2007 I guess a LOT of people will be missing their cruises. That's going to take a long time to repair.
Kevin's girl Posted February 14, 2007 #27 Share Posted February 14, 2007 Sounds like we could have had that ship back out in time for Valentine's day. We could bring the duct tape, and the crew the Bondo and it could have been champagne for everyone. :p Now you know why people recommend you bring duct tape you may need to loan it to the crew .... bring 2 rolls! voyagerfl Posted February 14, 2007 #29 Share Posted February 14, 2007 Can you imagine how many gallons of Bondo that is going to take  ;) DON'T FORGET THE DUCT TAPE ! :)
Capt_BJ Posted February 14, 2007 #30 Share Posted February 14, 2007 After seeing the extent of the damage, I'm feeling skeptical about their ability to properly repair this without putting her in dry dock. What do ya'll think? frankly this is equiv' to a good crunched fender. It didn't hit the suspension or bend the frame...... Even if the DID go below the water line, which is does not appear to do - believe it or not, you can weld metal under water. A dry dock is usually required when you need to open up really BIG openings... I've seen props changed with the ship in the water and there is discussion of building boxes than can be put against the hull so 'pods' can be serviced with the ship in the water (after pumping out the box) For the record - I'm sure Carn' and LLoyds will inspect the ship carefully for possible additional damage. And once THEY say it is fixed, the Coast Guard will come in and decide it they are convinced. Only THEN will the ship take on passengers for the next trip (from a US port anyway). cruisingjon Posted February 14, 2007 #31 Share Posted February 14, 2007 Does anyone know where the Fantasy is now? Fantasy is at Port in New orleans, it is moved down a bit to remain out of the way of other ships...it is facing the opposite direction from which it normally does so the damaged side ofthe ship is against the pier. We are scheduled to cruise out on Fantasy on Thursday, we have been in touch with carnival several times as we are leaving for NOLA tomorrow, they are assuring us, that things are a go, all the things that needed to be done...inspections etc. are complete. Gloryhound65 Posted February 15, 2007 #32 Share Posted February 15, 2007 I'd be very interested in seeing the repair procedures they use to fix this damage. Are they going to patch it or do a full structural rehab job on it to make it like new? I'd love to see the whole process, step by step. G
cruisingjon Posted February 15, 2007 #33 Share Posted February 15, 2007 Arrived in NOLA earlier today and walked down to the riverwalk area and actually saw the Fantasy. At that time is was still facing the wrong direction, BUT it appeared as though there was no work being done, looks like they are finished with whatever they are going to do for now. Scheduled to sail tomorrow
rwillis9 Posted February 15, 2007 #34 Share Posted February 15, 2007 I think I had read somewhere that the location is in the crew quarters area and did flood their rooms some.
