On-Board Credit Question

Hello-

We are booked on Pride of Hawaii 7/2/07. We are receiving a $75 per person on-board credit. I have only cruised once before- and did not have any credits- so I do have a question. Are there any restrictions to this credit? I am wondering if we do not use it all on-board if it can be applied to the $10 per person per day service fee (or whatever it is called- the tips)? We are planning our own excursions- not through the ship- and are not big drinkers- so the potential for having extra money is definitely there.

thanks for your help!

On the Pride ships, you can use your onboard credits for any of your purchases, OTHER THAN the service charges. While you may not use up the entire amount in the bars, you CAN use it toward dinner in a specialty restaurant w/ a cover charge, pictures, gifts from the gift shops on-board (jewelry, t-shirts, etc).

Normally can not be use of service charge or casino. Since there is no cacino the service charge is the only restriction for you. Use it for specialty restaurants, the shops onboard, sodas, water, but just don't let it go to waste.

So, does this only apply to the PRIDE ships? can you use the entire amount in the bars on the regular ships? Thanks in advance for your replies.........

  • 4 weeks later...

Is this unique to NCL? I'm going on the PoH next month, will also have an on-board credit. I'm sure I'll use it on specialty restaurants, but last year I went on a Princess cruise with an on-board credit and didn't realize until the end of the trip that it was a general account credit that would have balanced against the service charges and excursions. I probably wouldn't have used it all on alcohol if I had known that in advance. Does anyone know if the onboard credit can be used towards excursions?

Any time we have had onboard credit-- it will say something about not being able to be used for service charge or casino-- something to that affect-- and we found out after the first time that it was a general credit-- and we could have used it for service charges. So everytime since then- we have used it for service charges as well as additional charges. Maybe this was just "luck"-- but every time it has worked.

My DH and I purchased our cruise during a "$75 on-board credit" promotion. I got my final paperwork last week and it stated "$75 on-board credit" promotion. I asked my TA to clarify that the credit was $75 each (total of $150) and she said that it is not $150. It is $75 per cabin.

This OP thinks their credit is $75 per person also. Can anyone tell me if I am confused or my TA is?

Thanks!

They usually say it can not be used for service charge. Many have indicated this is not true, but you can not hold them to it. The rule is the rule.

You can ALWAYS use if for bars and drinks. They would prefer that since there is such a markup on this stuff.

Usually on-board credits are per cabin, mine have specifically stated this. Although I found out on Princess (again, NCL may differ) they split the credit across both accounts, so while we billed everything to my account we later found I only had a $25 credit (of a $50 cabin credit) and my wife had $25 as well, but it was applying to her service fees.

Ultimately I would say to check your account early in your cruise, which should be easy on an in-room TV on an NCL ship. That way you can confirm you have the credit, how much it is, and how it is split if at all.
