Kindlychap Posted May 13, 2007 #1 Share Posted May 13, 2007 Just a general question. I know from experience that one can have full breakfast with whatever one desires in the penthouse on QE2. But what about: Q3/4 grades? Caronia? Mauretania? And QM2 - with similar divisions? I honestly have no idea! Matthew
juliecat Posted May 13, 2007 #2 Share Posted May 13, 2007 In the restaurant or room service? The Queen's Grill breakfast hangtag menu did have more options than I've seen in other cabin grades; there were quite a few cooked dishes and I was given the impression that I could just write in what I wanted if it wasn't there (within reason). I think M and C only have Continental breakfast items on the hangtag, though the room service folder menu may have more choices (someone must have a copy of that). I have seen the Full Monty breakfast served in the Caronia restaurant. Julia

He's not an early riser, so hopefully will get something good delivered. I assumed that in every restaurant there would be a full breakfast. But, hey, I could still be wrong. And I'm still wondering about Britannia too - I'm not keen on getting out o the cabin for breakfast! Matthew
Nitty Posted May 13, 2007 #4 Share Posted May 13, 2007 there's a full breakfast in every restaurant if you go to it. i don't know about breakfast but the room service in the evening is the same as the menu except m class which is sandwiches and pizza. i don't know where i got this info but i read it somewhere here. glenn. pnhmrk Posted May 13, 2007 #5 Share Posted May 13, 2007 It's the Caronia room service I'm interested in I couldn't swear to it but I'm fairly sure that there were cooked items on the room service breakfast at Christmas (and that was in a Caronia cabin) - nothing like as many as there were in the restaurant but there was a choice. I thought that the room service menus changed as you went further down the ship. The menus on decks 4 and 5 are much more restricted than those on 1, 2 and 3. That could explain why Julia says "I think M and C only have Continental breakfast items on the hangtag" - if you get one of the "first class" cabins and you get a cooked room service breakfast, if you're in one of the "second class" cabins then you're restricted to a continental option. This sounds like good news for us! Last time we were on deck 5 and only continental breakfast items were on the hangtag, this time we will be on deck 2, though still M grade, but could this mean we can get a hot breakfast from room service? travel-to-go Posted May 14, 2007 #9 Share Posted May 14, 2007 I can't speak for QE2, but on QM2, I believe you can ask for anything (Bacon, sausage, corned beef hash, various eggs, etc) and it will be provided even if not on the hangtag menu. I cannot think that the QE2, in any grade would offer less service. Certainly, it is worth a try! Karie, who loves to breakfast in the dining room, if only for the eggs benedict. However, also not to keen on getting up and making myself presentable (the hard part) before they close. and IMHO, THEY CLOSE MUCH TOO EARLY! Don't they realize folks are on vacation, up until all hours, spending at their bars and the casino?
patwell Posted May 14, 2007 #10 Share Posted May 14, 2007 Due to my general inability to get out and about early we did room service almost every morning...loved it. Eggs, sausage muffins,fruit....other than the scrambled eggs which I mentioned in my review (and were not exactly what I'd call scrambled eggs) room service was great. made it to Kings Court one morning and there are certainly many choices. The lst morning my DH brought a tray back from Kings Court with all sorts of treats.... pnhmrk Posted May 14, 2007 #13 Share Posted May 14, 2007 You really should try a crossing!;) I've done one (admittedly in 1993!). There are two things that put me off - the long flight one way (and the baggage restrictions it causes) and the thought of having to deal with US Immigration ashore rather than onboard. dak Posted May 14, 2007 #14 Share Posted May 14, 2007 the thought of having to deal with US Immigration ashore rather than onboard. I really sympathise with that:eek: Our experience leaving Arcadia at New Orleans was absolutely farcical. Nobody was permitted to leave the ship until everyone had been individually interviewed by U.S. customs. The Crows Nest observation lounge was used as an interview centre. On a positive note, try an eastbound. That way, you have 6 nights to recover from the experience of entry into U.S. and dispel the "am I a criminal?" paranoia that is the inevitable result of dealing with U.S. customs officials. (Give a man a uniform:) ) Of course, you could also check into a good NY hotel and use that as the precursor to joining the ship. Works for me. David Trouble with eastbound crossings is the 23 hour days, instead of the 25 hour days. I'm not sure that the Immigration Procedures are THAT bad that I would not want to undertake crossings..... Matthew I can cope with the shortened days (but should we not get a refund on the lost hour each day?) Or course you are absolutely correct, it would be wrong to allow the colonials to prevent us from crossing. We must maintain our British understanding of bureucracy in the knowledge that we can do it better than anyone when it suits us!:) David
