Happy Traveler Posted May 26, 2007 #1 Share Posted May 26, 2007 Is anyone familiar with Cadiz? Is the port area good for walking around, or alternatively, is it easy to get to the city from the port. We'll have the afternoon free, and thought it might be nice to just walk around on our own. We will be there on July 2. Any suggestions? Thanks
missalto Posted May 26, 2007 #2 Share Posted May 26, 2007 Cadiz is a lovely town to walk around. We have been there 3 times before on cruises so this year (on Sea Princess) we are thinking of going to Seville. In Cadiz aim for the cathedral area - it is a lovely place to sit, have a beer and watch the world go by. Last time we were there we went up the bell tower in the cathedral - there were fantastic views but the bells were a little deafening! I think there is a red line painted on the pavement which is a sort of tourist walking route so you may want to follow that. There is also a camera obscura tower in the town which again gives great views. Beach is also close but we found the sea a little cold - not quite the Med temps! Anyway - enjoy your visit to Cadiz. Rare Keith1010 Posted May 26, 2007 #3 Share Posted May 26, 2007 We were just in Cadiz this past April as part of the Crystal Cruises World Cruise. You can just walk into the town from the pier. It was a very nice town and we too went to the Cathedral area. There are all sorts of small streets with a variety of stores and cafes all along them. It is a beautiful town and just fun to spend some time walking around. Enjoy!! Keith
carlmm Posted May 26, 2007 #4 Share Posted May 26, 2007 You should get a map from the tourist information with the sights and their opening times. There are so many beautiful churches, interesting museums, lovely alleys and more to discover. Everything is easily walkable.
luvnorway Posted May 26, 2007 #5 Share Posted May 26, 2007 Take a look at the posts in this thread from #6-> that was on this forum a couple of days ago. Some of us extolled the benefits of staying in Cadiz rather than going to Seville and included info and recommendations about Cadiz that you may find useful. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=557096
Morgans Posted May 28, 2007 #6 Share Posted May 28, 2007 If you like beaches then head for the beach. Cadiz has several beautiful beaches close to town ( an easy, flat walk away.) There is also a Hopon HopOff bus from just by the dock gates (across the road.) If you like to browse the shops, there are some excellent shoe shops with very reasonable prices. It's a lovely port of call.
cberge Posted May 28, 2007 #7 Share Posted May 28, 2007 Just as an aside FYI...Cadiz has some of the best leather goods and other items at reasonable prices...really good port for shopping.
marilynbn Posted May 29, 2007 #8 Share Posted May 29, 2007 What beaches are nice on Cadiz? Is the water warm enough July 1st? Marilyn
Happy Traveler Posted May 30, 2007 Author #9 Share Posted May 30, 2007 Thank you, everyone. I think we'll either take a half-day excursion, then spend the rest of the day in Cadiz, or simply stay in the city. Depends on how much R&R we want to build in our schedule.
