pinkbirds02 Posted May 28, 2007 #1 Share Posted May 28, 2007 Does anyone know if distilled water is available onboard the Grand Princess? Need distilled water in a portable breathing machine we have to bring onboard? Thanks for the help. Pammie poo Posted May 28, 2007 #2 Share Posted May 28, 2007 Boy I won't want to take a chance not having that, I'd call Princess and ask them.
Times Prince Posted May 28, 2007 #3 Share Posted May 28, 2007 All the tap water goes through an onboard water purification plant. The only other water I am aware of is bottled. But I agree with Pam - for medical equipment call Princess and ask. Also check the equipment written information.
AAAAmerican Posted May 28, 2007 #4 Share Posted May 28, 2007 Distilled water (No Minerals or anything ) is so very vital in procedures in your situation. I do think carrying your own supply as well speaking with your Booking Travel Agent/Agency is a must. They have to contact Princess Cruise Lines for that special and specific request. The water on most ships is pumped/piped in while in Port as well DeSalinated too. So it is not by any means Distilled! It as well has a high Sodium Level. B40 Tha Cruisa Posted May 28, 2007 #5 Share Posted May 28, 2007 I would not take the chance, I wish you the best of luck. Have a great cruise in November! :)
MercedMike Posted May 28, 2007 #6 Share Posted May 28, 2007 I assume you are talking about a humidifier CPAP machine. I have been cruising with mine for years and don't worry about distilled water for that small period of time. The ship's water is pretty pure and the worst that happens to me is that a small mineral film builds up inside the humidifier chamber. When I get home I rinse with vinegar and it goes away. Check with your respiratory tech, but I bet he will say it is OK to use regular water for a few days. The bigger problem with the CPAP is electrical power! Be sure to bring at least one long electrical cord and a power strip. Frequently there is only one outlet in the cabin and it may not be next to the bed. Have a GREAT cruise! charlsee Posted May 28, 2007 #7 Share Posted May 28, 2007 If Princess still allows passengers to bring open bottles of water aboard, I'd pour distilled water into an empty quart bottle of water or soda, etc (we did this for the past 3 Princess cruises). If not, I believe the cruise line will provide you with a full gallon bottle of distilled water if requested in advance (RCI did this for DH in April). Thanks for the info Mike. Your right, it is for a CPAP. First time using one for our 11th cruise, again thanks for the info Roger pinkbirds02@yahoo.com
mcruser Posted May 28, 2007 #9 Share Posted May 28, 2007 I too use a CPAP and use regular tap water with no problem. Have sailed on several cruises with mine, including the Grand-twice. I always take an extension cord with me to stretch to the only available outlet by the desk in the room. It probably would be wise to check with your doctor or the respiratory folks regarding your specific situation, but I also use tap water at home. Have fun! Tina G Posted May 28, 2007 #10 Share Posted May 28, 2007 Don't forget an extension cord, in case the one outlet in your cabin is across the room.;)
