Buffet food??

Although I haven't had any meals from the buffets, I've passed by and glanced at it a few times. What I've seen has been a nice variety, and I'm sure the food must be pretty good, because lots of passengers seem to enjoy the buffets.

Never, Cotton? Wow! I'm making it a goal for my next cruise to have lunch in the dining room. We have 3 sea days, so I plan to do it at least once!

To answer the OP's question, there's a great variety. On Conquest Class ships, you can get fish and chips, and some ships have the deli. There's also pizza, and the Lido deck grill.

From what I recall....most of the cruise buffet's are the standard "buffet faire" that you can find at any Casino Buffet. It's not bad....cuz that is what I like when it comes to buffets........but IMHO it's nothing that stands out.

Really! I'm just not into buffets, on ships or at home.

Since I did all the work for many years as a chef, as well as caterer later on, I LOVE having folks pamper ME these days, and having all three meals each day in the dining room makes me feel soooo special.:D

However - If I don't get off the ship in a port, and a dining room isn't open, then I usually have pizza, calzone, or Caesar salad.

We enjoy the buffet. It tends to best meet the meal of our family. I'm a veggie, my honey is a meats & potatoes type and our girls love pizza/fries/ice-cream for lunch. IMHO, the food is pretty good for buffet and on the Legend, the sandwich bar was great for accommodating my special requests or my girls minimal requests.

I'm with you Cotton, why should I serve myself.

I go to the buffets when I don't have the time to have a meal in the dining room. For a buffet, it's really not bad. The presentation is nice and the salads are very good. And it's a lifesaver for us parents whose kids want a quick bite;)

We always do dinner in the dining room. For me it is vacation to have the waiters come and take care of us. As for food selection, there is always a choice of entrees: pasta, beef, chicken, seafood and vegetarian. Plus, there is always the alternative menu - basic American food like steak, plain boneless chicken breast, hamburger, etc. That option never changes.

Breakfast depends on what time we have to be off the ship for our excursion - buffet if early, dining room if later.

I guess with all the virus scares the buffet would be a good place to avoid. Lots of places to pick up other peoples germs.

And the 200 persons working in the kitchens who prepare your dining room food are germ free ?

GOOD POINT, lizardhowson!!

I only ask about the buffets because there is a day or two that I would like to take part in activities that happen to coincide with what I hope will be a late seating dinner time...

I love being pampered in the dining room and making friends with my servers. It's a real treat for me nowadays. I'd like to make it to the dining room for breakfast most days -- I'm usually not a breakfast guy, but Eggs Benedict will lure me there. I'd like to split lunches between the buffet and DR -- the variety will be fun, but I hear that I should eat on the island at Half Moon Cay.

I eat dinners in the dining room whenever possible, but I noticed last year on the Legend that some of the dining room dinner offerings were on the dinner buffet the same evening. Unfortunately, it is not the steak, prime rib, or lobster tails. It was more likely the chicken, fish, or pork dish. The deli was also open and pizza can always be had. Many of the desserts were also on the dining room menu the same night.

We almost always eat breakfast from the buffet because we love taking our trays back to our balcony- fruit, omelets, eggs, bagels, etc. We like lunch at the buffet/grill/deli/pizza on sea days because we're usually by the pool & don't want to get dressed up & I love their chili dogs & fries & corned beef sandwich. We always eat dinner in the dining room, so I couldn't tell you about that.

Dinner at the buffet includes a nice salad bar, nice selection of fruit and desserts, always one or two soups, (a cream of something every night), turkey and roast beef being carved to order, (gravy on the side and some type of stuffing) a fish entree, one or two other meat entrees, (chicken and veal or beef), rice, sometimes mashed potatoes, a vegetable or two, and a tray of ziti. Pizza and deli and soft serve ice cream are also located in the same area. I think dinner is available from 5:30 to 9:30, with pizza and ice cream 24 hrs.

What type of dinner food does the buffet have?

Thank you!!!

nasty stuff. blech. extra-chewy roast beast, canned ham, soupy mashed potatoes. pasta station open occassionally. canned veggies. i ate there a couple times because i wasn't in the mood for all the hoop-la in the main dining rooms. ended up with soup and salad. you can get a rueban from the grill, but no fries. bad pizza available 24 hours.

I found this out also on the Miracle. We had late seating in the dining room. I would go by the dinning room to see what was offered that night and then would go up to the Lido deck. I would try a small sample just to see if this would be a selection for the evening.

Other than that, we would use the Lido casual dining in the morning and afternoon. Not bad at all. Usually had a great selection for lunch to choose from.

i thought the Pride had excellent buffet food.

the roast chicken was good, the fresh carved lamb was awesome, banana bread to die for, excellent fries, fried crabs, yummy stuff.

did not care for the prepared salads.

tuna sandwich good at deli too!

i think it is great for the occassional meal, i mainly ate in the dining room though.... a couple times, BOTH!
