Why the San Diego stop?

Recommended Posts

I'm not saying to avoid the excursion. I liked it, both times ... just giving you the $$$ warning that Jesus forgets to tell you. It took some of the folks at our table by surprise. My recommendation, order water on the tour and do the mas drinking across the street or next door. :)

Thanks for the tip!! I will definitely watch out for that one! I appreciate it! :)

San Diego is the best port on this itinerary IMHO. Whether it be by cruise ship or by car, we always do something different when we are there. :D

Catalina is fine... but crowded. Tender lines are unbelievably long at times.

Won't disembark in Ensenada unless I really am wanting something from there that I can't get elsewhere. :(

Same here! What a beautiful and fun city. Really don't think I could get bored visiting :D

I think the most pointless stop on this cruise in Catalina. It is an hour by boat from San Pedro. Why does the ship go somewhere you can see from the port. I live inland Los Angeles, and I can see San Pedro. That is the most pointless stop.

Hey, Fitz, not all of us are from CA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I really liked visiting Catalina Island - it was my first time there.

Now, the mess that happened with the tenders, I can live without! :(

Yah! And some of us ARE from California and have to drive a very long time to get to your area. :p ;)

I have a friend that spends a week on Catalina EVERY year! For the life of me, I don't get it. BUT - it is fun to go to once or twice... it tends to be foggy, which I can get at home ( I live on the coast)... when we were there, there was a couple from another ship walking behind us and we heard them say "Oh honey, this is just like Capitola!" Ummmmm I can get THERE in 10 minutes! And I don't have to tender! LOL We will still get off the ship, but like I said - if we HAD to skip one it would be Catalina. I only like Ensenada because it is warm and makes a great SEA day after popping into town for a few cheap drinks and some Mexican food (especially at the end of a 15 day cruise that had NO yummy spicy food! We were craving mexican food! :D )

I can see Catalina from my house, and I still like going there - it's pretty much the only way I'd ever bother. Think about it - how many tourist attractions are there in your area that you never bother seeing because you can do it whenever you want to?

Exactly. I only go to the Liberty Bell when I have out-of-town visitors who want me to take them sightseeing. Same for just about everything else in my wonderful historic Philadelphia. :)

Your killing me! I love watching National Treasure over & over because I want to go to those places!! But same here - San Francisco is only about 1-1/2 hours away and the last two times I was there was because of friends from out of state!

I guess I can see the point of those who live in and near LA when it comes to Catalina. I live close to Las Vegas as don't go near any of the casino areas or the Las Vegas Strip unless I have people from out of town who want me to take them to see it.

Now, on our last cruise there was a lady who was from San Diego who said she was going to go to her house for the day when we were in port there... go figure!

Are you kidding me? If I lived in the town we were porting in, I certainly wouldn't go home! I would stay on the ship and treat it as a sea day. :p

Every time we've been the gods have been shining plenty of sunlight down on us :) ...even once in December!

I'm not crazy for tendering anywhere, but Catalina is a little gem. I can't see it from home, but I can from my SIL's house and from the 241 on a clear day :p

I totally agree with not doing tourist things in your own town. I had a cousin visit a few weeks ago and she asked for directions to the Venetian Hotel and Casino. I really had to stop and think because I just never go on the strip. She thought it was hilarious. She couldn't understand why there are some "newer" properties on the strip I still haven't been to!

On the flip side, every once in a while- not very often- my DH and and I will get a room and act like tourists for a day. Go to the pool, walk the strip, gamble, etc. It is like a mini vacation without leaving town.
