Seabourn Legend New Entertainment

Doesn't it make sense that Eric and Michelle would continue to relieve each other as they have been doing? Unless there is some re-allocation of resources (aka CD's). Eric, David E Green, and Jan Stearman were my first CD 'team' in '02. I have been pretty spoiled by Seabourn over the last 5 years.

I think Eric has a great personality. I never went to any of his shows so I cannot comment on that.. I do think he is funny when he plays "Cousin Ritchie".

I honestly can't say that any other CD I have experienced "wowed" me.

Look forward to meeting you in the Sky Bar on August 18th. We too are from UK - Berkshire. Interested in your comments on new entertainment. We didn't think it sounded promising when we first heard about it in May when we were on the Legend but your report sounds good. We will definitely miss Eric both as CD and for his show even though we had seen it many times. We will not miss his Cousin Ritchie act in Name That Tune though - maybe it just doesn't appeal to the British sense of humour!!

I look forward to meeting you both at the sky bar on the 18th August, unfortunately I don't think the new entertainment will be on the Spirit at this time, that is what i was told on board the Legend last week.

As far as I am aware Eric is going back to the Legend as CD he just was not very happy about it!

Thanks for the insights as to the new entertainment. I am pleased it worked out as well as it did, being a new concept for Seabourn.

I am looking forward to sampling it on my September 29th cruise.

We, too, are sailing on the 29th. On the Spirit. Which ship will you be aboard?

Wonder how they approach Liar's Club?

I will be on the Legend...with a special group paired with a James Beard Award winning chef and a wine expert extraordinaire. And that is the truth!

I have great respect for all of the Seabourn Cruise Director's and their Assistants! Actually, I applaud all of the entertainers and lecturer's we've enjoyed. Their work is never done or ending~~from early morning to late hours in the evening. (we realize they have mutliple daily tasks~~not just entertaining)

I have always enjoyed the Club entertainer's~~remember David Stringer and Alyson Law? And the excellent Dan Davies and his quartet? The recent "Rebound" group. Victoria, the harpist was outstanding (Norm will remember Victoria) the fabulous Mike Oxenham, pianist~~~ And Steve Daniels, Dale Gonyea, comedians. Far to many talented performer's to name.

I feel we are indeed fortunate in having Eric, Jan, David E. (leads everyone in most Seabourn days) and the entire group of Assn. Cruise Directors on Seabourn~~ And I look forward to seeing and being with them again soon. I'm grateful for their friendships and I offer warm wishes for each one their continued success!:p

I want to pipe in here.

First, Deb, it was a pleasure to meet you.

I first read about changes to the entertainment on this board, just before I boarded on June 23rd. Being form NJ and a "tad" cynical, I was sure this was a cost cutting measure! I have never been on a cruise, let alone a Seabourn cruise. Given how good the entertainment was during my two weeks on board, I have to say that, cost had little or nothing to do with Seabourn's decision to change the entertainment.

Seabourn is at a crossroad! They are trying to please their old clientele & their new clientele. Judging by the fabulous time everyone onboard seemed to be having, they are doing a good job.

Hi Grace

i have just realised who i think you are? you are not called Grace? it was great meeting you both as well and i hope we sail together some time soon.

The entertainment whilst we were onboard was a great improvement on what is usually offered, and i agree with your comments about Seabourn trying to provide entertainment for both the younger and older clientle and i believe that they have done a great job!

regards

Back from the same Legend Cruise (6/30-7/14). We were newbies to Seabourn. I thought the entertainment terrific. Did anyone catch the "classic guitarist" - Tom, jamming with Oasis at the sky bar one afternoon? His concert in the King Olaf lounge was well attended and worthwhile. I thought the group EVEREST was wonderful - inidividually as well as a duo. Ania has quite a voice and her joining the CD and Oasis gal for Diva's night was a real treat.

Incidentally, both the DJ and Tom "hosted" the putting contests on Deck 8 and were visible on shore tours as well as were Captain and the Mrs.

We, too, have booked an Open cruise for next year. I now see why this group is soooo devoted. I can't wait to be welcomed back on board.

While we left our stewardess a monetary thank-you....had we known about the "fund" would have done that too. Dumb me for not asking. The crew was superb and deserving.

Meeting Maid,

Thank you for your report. It is good to hear about the entertainment change and being so well accepted by those that report. I look back on our first Seabourn cruise in 2002 and becoming a 'convert' so as to say. Part of me didn't want to tell anyone at that time how much we enjoyed Seabourn, as I wanted to be able to book freely but as you can see that did not last long. I went with images of stuffiness, snootiness and we wouldn't probably 'belong'. Not true at all! Not only is this board supportative, helpful, but they are friendly with wonderful guidance and input from many; i.e. Martha aka Martita, Pinkie. Maybe we will meet on a future sailing.

I don't think many of us book Seabourn for the "entertainment"

aspect of a voyage~~as we all throughly enjoy the CD's and the entertainers, I certainly wouldn't enjoy "glitzy" as in mega ship's evenings. I love the duo's in the Club~~good background music for visiting or dancing.

Another idea for thanking Crew members is to treat them to lunch while visiting Ports. I have given "luncheon envelopes" to different Crew members suggesting they invite their roommate, boyfriend or another Crew member to have lunch ashore~~~they are thrilled as most do not have the funds to splurge on luncheons. (I don't consider this "tipping"~~)

Enjoy your week!:p

I agree that treating crew members to lunch or drinks while visiting a port is a great idea. Several times we have seen crew sitting at a cafe or bar and gone inside to pay for a round or two. On our last cruise we treated one of the barmen to a tapas lunch in Tarragona along with another couple from the ship. These things are small thanks for the wonderful service we receive.

wripro,

The Crew members never forget these kindness's~~I know the "kids" you generously treated will always be ever-so grateful for your thoughtfulness.

An incident I shall never forget was the time when my elderly Mother was unable to tender into St. Bart's~~sea was simply too rough for her to board the tender. I went to the Purser and ask if by chance would there be a Stewardess that might stay with Mother while I went ashore for awhile~~I couldn't believe it when an hour later the handsome Assn. Cruise Director came and said, "I'm here to pick up my date for the afternoon!" Mother was thrilled~~they went to lunch~~all over the ship~~then he escorted her to tea time.

She had THE best time ~~and bragged to me that "she had enjoyed a date with a young handsome gentleman."

I do not know of another cruise line that would go "above and beyond" for a 'lit 92 year old lady! Yes, the Cruise Director's and the Assistants do much more than entertain.

  • 2 weeks later...

Martita B and Wripo, What a great idea to buy a couple of rounds or provide lunch envelopes. I bet those gestures really go a long way. Being an SB virgin until Dec...I want to learn as much as possible so that I'm fully prepared.

Martita B-It sounds as if everyone does such a fabulous job. How do you decide who to buy lunch for? Are U.S. funds okay on all the islands? I know that some of the islands are expensive, so what would be an appropriate range of cash to give?

Any other ideas?

For me it is usually a random encounter on shore. We see some crew members at a cafe, or run into one on the street and one thing leads to another. One of my fondest memories of my last cruise in May was meeting our stewardess and a friend on the tender going into Calvi in Corsica. We strolled the streets together, I bought each of them a huge gelato cone, we took pictures of each other and had a great time. It is so gratifying to see these people who work so hard have a few hours off to enjoy themselves, and even more so to be a part of it. This is a uniquely Seabourn experience.

I also decide at random as to whom I treat for an ashore lunch. Sometimes I'll treat my Stewardess and her roommate~~also,I'll "slip" an envelope to dining room waiter's or Club server's. Sometimes it will be deck boy's~~~most do not have the money to have a nice lunch in port.

Last Christmas I took a small Christmas tree and took battery op. lights along with all the small tree ornaments. One afternoon we set the tree on the Sky Bar and we all decorated it~~I sent it to the Crew Mess for their table~~~with a card signed by all of us decorators. I had many Crew members who thanked us for the holiday remembrace.

Matt,

Our "best laid plans" as to my dangling above the Crew decked out in my beautiful white feathered angel wings and matching halo for the Pride's Christmas card couldn't be approved~~insurance entered into our scheme! But, I did take lots of Santa hats, elf attire and many holiday tiaras for the Crew to wear for their photo.

We surely had fun though planning my "hover and dangle!"
