NCL Mastercard FAQ

I really agree with you. I have had nothing but problems with my certificates since it changed.

I sent them in and they returned them both times saying they only upgrade when available.

I called and the manager was so rude and said if I did not like it write to corporate. Which I will if I get time.

I told her I would be going to RCL she said what ever I wish I had gotten her name.

I had gotten a BOA RCL CC years ago and have enough now for 2 free tickets. I just feel loyal to NCL after 7 cruises.

Update:

My (4x) upgrade certificates and $1000 (2x$500) in compass rewards were both applied successfully.

The upgrade certs were applied in under a week but the cash value certificates took a few weeks to be applied (was informed this is done by a different department).

So all good. ty as always for the comments / info.

On phone with World Points rewards....didn't get double points for onboard account charges. Third person and almost an hour later girl just told me I was right about the double points. Says that as long as NCL is listed at the top of my statement I will receive double points and to call back next week if I don't hear from them. I must have quoted at least a dozen times what the letter attached to my card said. Then I explained that I had been on the phone for over an hour and talked to several people and needed a phone number so that this wouldn't happen again. FYI..I was talking to Susan at 800-799-9631. Everyone I talked to says they are no longer sending cards with NCL logo so I am interested to hear if anyone else got World Points card instead? She was talking about extra points for groceries, etc but I guess I wouldn't know that because I haven't use my card for any other charges except my newspaper and electric company who might be a bit upset if I don't call and give them another card number soon. :D Then she offered me overdraft protection for my checking account that I never ordered checks for and my MC that I rarely use.

Just an update -

I emailed my cruise certificate info to cashiers@ncl.com on August 9th. The letter said I would hear back from NCL within five business days. When I hadn't heard anything I resent the info on August 16th. August 17th I received an email from NCL stating they had not received my original email, but that my account had been updated. This morning my NCL account finally shows "Payment Complete."

So, the system does work for those who received the letter regarding numbers ending in FC, but you will want to make sure you send them in plenty of time to f/u if needed. We have two certificates left and will use them the same way in January. Nice to be able to do online!

I just received our replacement cards, since the old ones are expiring next month. The new cards do have the in the upper left hand corner, but they are changing the numbers on the cards as they expire. I have no idea why, and this is a huge pain since it will need to be changed in all recurring bills. Since I have to change everything now anyway, and since the new program stinks, I will change all the recurring stuff to another card and just keep this account opened with a charge here and there, and if we sail on NCL.

My card is expiring next month so I was sent a regular World's Points card with a different account number but the top of the paper the cards are attached to has NCL logo. Why do credit card companies change account numbers for no good reason? I never stopped some payments that are made automatically each month because it is such a pain...now they won't get paid unless I call them. Did anyone else receive replacements without the NCL logo?

I'm not thrilled with the change in the new program, but I still haven't found a rewards program I prefer, so I'm still using my NCL cards.

NCL doesn't administer the credit card program, so you need to contact Bank of America if you have questions on how your points are being calculated. I've never had any trouble at all with the "bonus" points on either the new or old programs. They show up on your statement as bonus points in the section where your points balance is communicated.

As an example, right underneath where my charges for the month are listed, my statement reads:

Norwegian Cruise Line Worldpoints MC

1,603 MONTHLY EARNINGS

0 BONUS POINTS

604 NCL BONUS POINTS

6,046 TOTAL POINTS AVAILABLE

The charge for NCL is included in my monthly earnings points for 604 points, and then the "2 points for every dollar" is listed as NCL bonus points. You won't see them until the month in which your NCL charge shows up on your statement.

 Exactly!! I don't understand dandi's confusion:confused: or why they think NCL or the travel agent can handle this.....

HMMM.

I had two NCL cards (because the previous program limited amount of points per cycle/year) and one was replaced because it had expired.

I never activated it because now that there is no limit to the points you can accumulate, I only need to use one card. I didn't even look at the numbers on this new card that I tossed in the drawer but YES...the dang this does have a new number.

I assume when the one I use expires, that will get a new number as well  and yes, that will be a royal PITA.

Hi everyone,

Please forgive me if this has been answered recently, but has anyone had the $500 certificate credited back to their credit card after the final payment has been made? I'm looking to book an October cruise so the full payment will be due at booking. I will try and call the 800 # in the next day or so and ask them, but maybe some of you have the answer.

Thanks for your help,

Sandra

I did this last year with no problems. Just this past Monday I e-mailed my last $500 certificate info for a cruise in October that I booked last week and paid in full. Got an e-mail from NCL 2 days later (yesterday) stating that my certificate has been applied to my booking. Fingers crossed, the credit should appear on my credit card shortly. It can take a couple of days or so for the credit to appear so I'm keeping an eye on my account on-line.

Thank you so much for the info. Will send my certificate in this weekend. I guess the worst thing that could happen would be for them to refuse to use it on this cruise and I'd have to book another by the end of January! How awful that would be!!

Thanks again,

Sandra

My TA e-mailed me late today and said NCL applied the $500 to my booking and they would be processing a refund to my credit card.

  • 2 weeks later...

Question for all you NCL PP out there that retired their NCL World Points card because the rewards are so terrible in reference to the old Compass Program.

Does anyone have a "Top Five" list of better cards out there in terms of cash-back or point rewards?

I've been searching for awhile on many sites and have come up with the following cards which seem to be "top oicks":

Costco True Earnings AMEX- cash back (up to 3%) no fee

Capital One - No Hassle Miles - straight 1% on points for reward/travel No fee

Discover More Card - up to 5% cash back (after first 6500 in purch) no fee

Those were my picks, except there is also Capital One -No Hassle Miles- For Ultra Professionals - which earns straight 2% on ports for reward/travel Fee (I think it is $39/yr):0

Got my new NCL cards to replace my temporary world points ones however they didn't give double points for my OB account charges last month. Took a girl 2 weeks to get it resolved. Last week she indicated that it was not too promising so I told her to be prepared to give me names and numbers if it wasn't fixed by this weekend. I charged those expenses to the old card and activating the new card was a stupid move since the NCL cards have arrived and old one isn't expired yet.

Still not satisfied with replacements. Been charging to my Southwest airline card because I plan to cancel it soon rather than pay the yearly fee again. For $20 off and 8 free points it was worth the 1st year. :D

Okay... which card is the "new NCL" card and which is the :temporary World Points card"? We recently received metalic silver cards with the NCL logo in the upper left hand corner, since our old cards with the picture of the cruise ship on them are expiring soon. The letter refers to these cards as "Norwegian Cruisle Line World Points Master Cards". The numbers are different from the old numbers. I am assuming these are the only cards we will get, but reading your post has me a bit confused, now.

My "temporary" cards were black and only the paper they were attached to said NCL. My newest cards are Silver w/NCL logo in the corner. Because my paperwork said NCL I was able to get the girl in customer service to plead my case. I still cannot get into the NCL Rewards to order my $100 slot play. Seems to be the best reward for 5000 points that they have going now.

Do they work from home? There was a name on the caller ID (and it wasn't hers or BOA) and I almost didn't answer the call.

I'm just wondering to myself.

For those of you that are still using the NCL card.

Why?

It seems that the Worldpoints conversion brought this card to one of the worst reward cards out there? I've been checking some of the best deals out there in terms of cash-back and rewards and it seems to me that you have to spend 2-3 times more on the NCL card to get the equivalent type of benefit from the other leading cards?

Just wondering...

We keep the card,l to keep the credit history, but rarely use it. We will eventually have enough for a discount on a cruise. It really isn't worse than most other cards, but on par with most of them. It used to be three times better! :D The cards listed in the above post are the best, but Amex isn't taken everywhere, and is not practical if you are not near a Costco. Discover is fine, but also not accepted at many places internationally, and the extra points are constantly changing. Capital One MC for Ultra Professionals is the best, even with the fee, since the points are doubled, and can be used in any way your please. ;) Even that is not as good as the old NCL card, but the points are more flexible.

We have our next cruise in November and have 4 NCL cards. Since the new program, we have 2 of the cards at 10,000 points. I will cash them out for the casino or OBC and then shut down the cards. I have gone to the Marriott and Hilton cards. Marriott is $65 per year, but on each anniversary you get a certificate for a free night at a Marriott property - not a bad deal. Just ordered the Hilton card because we are Hilton Honor members, but since it's a free card and so far this year we have stayed 24 nights, we figured we might as well get extra points since the NCL card is now worthless. Bank of America must be seeing a lot of people cancelling their cards because of their changes.

The best part about those "double" points, is they can be used for anything travel, and last time I checked, they could also be used for cash back. :) Lots of flexiblity, and you are not locked into one cruise line, airline, hotel, ets.

C-Breeze.

Good point about AMEX and Discover not being taken anywhere.

I was really bent on not paying for my next new card but like you said I was eyeing that No-Hassle Pro card and it does appear to be a pretty darn good deal albeit comes with the yearly fee..

CBreeze had recommended the Cap One No Hassles Professional card a while back, and even with the $39 fee, we've racked up 30,000 miles in three months.

At this rate, we'd get the equiv of $1000 coupon (or cash back etc) in a year.

That is just a bit lower than the NCL Compass program gave out, so I feel it's the best offer around today.

Other than the No Hassle Pro card, I'm checking into the Discover More Card. No fee and up to 5 bonus points for Gas, Groceries etc. but the bonus rotates fixed categories every quarter.

One thing I saw that was exciting was they mentioned you could take the cash back points and double the reward by opting for any one of several hundred gift cards and I see that there was an NCL gift card!

I have to investigate to see if that's case. If it is you could rack up lots of cash back points and then double their worth by opting for the NCL gift card? That and no annual fee look pretty attractive.

As stated I have to check out the details to see if there's any hitches..

Let me know about that NCL gift card! Most of the gift card you can get have an expiration date on them which can be three moths from when you get them :o I got some gift cards through Discover a few years ago, and intended to give them as presents, but they needed to be used right away. Also, you must register each quarter to get those bonus points in each catagory, a point that I missed until recently. :(
