Hotels in New Orleans

I am going on a cruise out of NO in January.. I have a friend going on the cruise with me who is from SC.

Should she fly in the day of the cruise (her time of arrival is 8;30 a.m., but I am worried if they cancel the flight or it's late we will be in trouble.)

Should she fly in the day before and I pick her up and we stay in a hotel somewhere that offers free parking for the duration of the cruise?

Lots of people fly in the day of a cruise...however, we do not. Been there, stressed out and threw the t-shirt away.

Since it is January and ice or snow could be a factor (at either end) I would advise that she fly in the day before. It just takes a lot of stress out of the travel plans!!
