Carnival Liberty 09/23/07 review (LONG)

And we also did not like the layout of the ship. It was a pain when it was raining and the only way to get to the buffett was if we wanted to get soaked, or go all the way downstairs walk to the other end of the ship and take the elevator up. Plus getting into the dining room was like a cattle herd. We eventually stopped going to dinner by the end of the week cause we just couldn't be bothered.

Hmmmmm. Every Conquest class ship I've ever been on has decks 1, 2, 5, 6 ,7 and 8 go all the way through without having to get soaked, of course I don't have much experience with rain since it's only happened on 2 cruises out of 11!!!!!! For all of you that don't like Conquest class ships (Conquest, Freedom, Valor, Liberty, Glory) don't sail on them there are 17 others to choose from.

I think I must sail in a parallel universe or maybe I'm just more agreeable than most. I LOVE the soups on Carnival, it's something that they do exceptionally well IMO. As a pp stated, I don't go to the cattle call for my meals, I like being served, however if I am inclined to get something off the buffet, it isn't going to be at the sound of the starting bell, RELAX the buffet is open for hours, take your time getting there. The waitstaff has always been as pleasant with me as I've been with them.

Sorry that the OP is so unhappy with Carnival, but when someone finds that much wrong in a single cruise I have to believe that perhaps they should look in a mirror.

First of all, if you're going to quote someone, do it correctly. That's MY statement at the top of your paragraph, not the OP's.

Secondly, if you read what I wrote I said getting into the dining room was like a cattle herd. And we would go to dinner anywhere between 5-10 minutes late the few nights we went. We liked to go to the lobby bar and have a drink before dinner, so the easiest way to get to the dining room from there would be going up to the 5th floor, it was just always really crowded right there. Just giving fellow cruisers an FYI. As far as getting to the buffet goes, our room was right near the stairs so it was easier to just walk up the few steps and go outside. I was exaggerating with the walking "all the way downstairs" as our room was on the 8th floor. AND, we didn't realize our deck went all the way through until after we got soaked in the rain. What can I say, live and learn... which brings me to my next point...

Third, having NEVER sailed a Conquest class ship before, we didn't know exactly what to expect in regards to the layout. Sure, we could look at a million diagrams online, but you can't get a feel for the ship unless you're actually on it. Unless of course I live in some parallel universe and can somehow learn the in's and out's of a ship without ever actually stepping foot on it. That doesn't mean we won't try one again, it was just a pain the first few days getting used to.

I am not the OP and I throughly enjoyed my trip in spite of the few minor things here and there. I'll never stop sailing with Carnival just because of the silly things like this. Now like I said earlier, let this thread die already!! Cause now I'll probably get flamed like the OP, and I'm not too thrilled with that.

It only applies to US and Canadian residents, that did not bother us, it was a problem to get flights from the two ports we tried, regards

That is all well and good, but the OP is from Virginia Beach, VA USA

and could have availed herself and her family of the option.

Just a couple random answers to questions.

Popcorn available at the lido bar during movies, $1.00 charge on you sail-n-sign card, needed butter though.

I went and watched 'Casino Royal' one night from a lounge chair. Movies and video concert times are listed in the Capers every day.

We had #33 for our luggage and did not get called to leave the ship until almost 10:30 am and then they still have to check the ship. We had a late flight and prefered the ship to the airport for waiting. But the pier 19 building did have a large waiting room with lots of seating if you get there too early.

Hey I was thinking ... since there was hardly any food on the ship, maybe we could get that dude off the save-a-child commercials (the ones where he is in a 3rd world country trying to get you to adopt a child) to do a commercial asking for donations to help the starving people of the Liberty. Yes for only 58 cents per day you can help a competent grown person find food without long lines on a $100 quadrillion ship! Please help, ... they may not make it past today. And we will send you a photo of the cruiser you adopt to show others how you made a difference in the world. Please call now ... operators are standing by.

:D :D :D

Oh man, that was funny!

Just when I get to thinking snobbery and "holier than thou" commentary has run out of control in the US, someone comes along and makes me realize, maybe it's not so bad here after all.

The rudest people I run into are almost never American. At least when it comes to line cutting and "me first" attitudes.

I'm a Canadian, living in the US, so don't try to play the, "oh, well that's just an American for you." card.

There are Americans who I'd consider far more rude than others. but I won't go there and besides, the same could be said of most nations. ;)

I hope you are somehow able to find a bit of humility in your life, the arrogant tone of your posts borders on astounding.

First if I was a snob I would not reply to your post.

If you read my posts I stated that in Europe we have enough of our own idiots.

I also stated that there were a number of Americans on that cruise that were as upset with this behaviour as we were.

The quote you used was in responce to the guarantee clause and why it was not invoked, in our case we could not invoke it because it is for Canadian and American residents only.

I involved myself in this thread because some of the intial post resonated with me, but mainly because of the sneering remarks made about an op who simply posted an opinion, my attitude is you fight fire with fire.

I am glad you have found humility, but maybe not enough to allow you to instruct me as to what you think I need in my life.

Kind regards

Wow, be glad you weren't on the 9/29 sailing Jennabee, I just read one passengers post that they believe a wife murdered her husband while onboard...imagine the problems and interuption that might have caused you if you were onboard!

Kinda makes long lines, late opening dining rooms and wordy Cruise Director complaints seem moot huh?

I never heard anything about a murder. You'd think at least 1 person from that sailing would've plastered that all over this board. hmm..Interesting though. I mean, how could she possibly think she'd get away with that?

I read it in a review on the main board of the 9/29 Liberty cruise....

Just goes to prove the percentage of cruisers on cc are very low.

Carnival Liberty sailing 9/29/07

"First and foremost. In case you have not heard, a woman killed her husband on this sailing. We found this out the last night of the cruise. Two guards were posted on deck 8, 5 cabins up from friends of ours. This happened on Wednesday night early evening. The air lifted the body from the ship Friday morning, and the code they were announcing was code 5 and 7 on the loud speaker. They posted two 24 hour guards at the cabin door to protect the crime scene. This is no rumor folks, we heard from the older couple that was right next to this cabin. Nothing is in the paper yet, but having been monitoring the cruise bruise web site for more details. "
