Alcohol on Dawn

You cannot bring any hard liquor on board. It will be confiscated and held until your last day. If you buy liquor in the shops, they will hold it until the last day. (it is funny to see all the bags lined up in the gift shop that last morning.)

If you bring wine on board, you have a choice: you can either have it held for you until the last day, or you can pay $15 per bottle corkage fee and enjoy it anytime on the ship.

You can also order a bar set-up for your cabin from NCL.

NCL searches all luggage (both carry on and checked). If they find something they suspect in your checked luggage, they will hold the bag and send you a note to report to the naughty room and have you open the suitcase. If they find it in your carry on, they will either take it or allow you to pay the corkage fee.

We are sailing on the Dawn in November. We have sailed on RCCL, Celebrity, Costa, and Princess. We have never had any problem bringing liquor on board. What is the real "scoop" on NCL?

There are lots of bars on board. You don't have to bring your own. We are sailing the Dawn on Nov. 11th. What is your sail date?

There are lots of creative people who smuggle booze onboard for their cabin. Last time we ended up only drinking half of it so we are leaving it home next time. Between the buckets of beer, the free cocktail hour specials in the casino, as well as the free booze at the Captain's Reception, we had enough cocktails. Besides, we find plenty of cheap drinks at the ports of call: Mexico has a bucket of beers for a buck a bottle. St. Marten also has beer for a buck. I love the happy hour from 11-4pm at Oyster Bay Beach.

BTW, when you board, ask your cabin steward to remove the booze in your fridge or you will be charged if you consume any. We like to make room in the fridge just in case we buy an extra bucket of beers for our balcony.

to answer the question about bottles in your pocket. Unless they still out bad, it will not be a problem.

It is against the rules on the ship, but probably not an issue.

On the other hand, it is ILLEGAL to do it when going through airport security. But, bottles in your pocket have been know to even sail through the airport screening as well. Those on the x-ray will probably be found.

Ok, so it appears that NCL is somewhat rigid about their policy about carrying on alcohol. Like another poster, we enjoy a cocktail or two in the cabin when preparing for the evening. The other lines I have sailed recently, Princess, Costa, HAL and RCCL were not rigid about bringing reasonable amounts of wine and spirits aboard. Princess also sells packages of small, 375 ml bottles along with mix for in-cabin consumption. Does NCL have any provision for in-cabin consumption? I saw someone in a thread mention bar set-ups. Can anyone tell us what that includes? Is there a mini-bar in the room, and how well is it stocked? I don't mind paying the exorbitant prices usually charged for in-cabin consumption, but it is nice to know that it is available.

Considering a European cruise aboard NCL for next year. New to the line, but we have been cruising since 1986.

Thanks for any info.

What is included in this? Do you order ice from your stateroom host, or is there a machine?

You can order your bar set-up from shipcoordinator(name of your ship)@ncl.com. example - shipcoordinatordawn@ncl.com.

email your request and he/she will inform you by return email what brands are available and the price. There is a $3.00 delivery fee to your cabin for the whole order. You must also order or carry on your mixers.

Order MUST be made at least 2 weeks before your cruise date w/CC information.

Ice is supplied in your ice bucket twice per day.

Be sure to ask for an email confirmation of your order (which you will receive the week before your cruise) to print out and carry on-board with you in the event there is a problem.
