We're joining Aurora's world cruise in San Francisco in January . Stopping off in Australia for a few weeks and planning a 3 night stay in Sydney (February) before hiring a car and driving to Melbourne (eventually).

Can anyone recommend a good hotel with views of the harbour please? The last time we visited Sydney we did it on the cheap so would like to have a bit more luxury this time -without breaking the bank of course!!!

Hi Caryl!

There are so many hotels in Sydney, depends which part of the harbour you wish to veiw, Darling harbour, the Operahouse/Harbour Bridge.

I love the Rocks area, as its fairly central to the landmarks.

Have you had look on www.wotif.com that will give you a good overview and www.tripadvisor.com will give you some reviews.

There is a range of 2 to 5 star hotels, I assume you are looking for something more upmarket this time, a regular here recently stayed at the Shangri la and said it had wonderful views of the harbour and it is in a great location.

I am staying at the Menzies in a couple of weeks time, although it has no views, it is in a good location at Wynyard, easy walk to Darling Harbour and The Rocks area.

I stayed at the Intercontinental a few weeks back and it has excellent views of the harbour Bridge & Opera House and is a 5 min walk to circular quay. Also star city it great, has everything and harbour view rooms too.

We stayed at the Meriton World Tower on the 64th floor September 2006.

Sorry no views of the harbour but fantastic views looking across to Bondi Beach:) .

We had a 2 bedroomed 2 bathroom apartment for $216 per night - pretty good for the city.

Hi Caryl!

We just came back from the Crowne Plaza Darling Harbour - wonderful service, great foods, especially the breakfasts...chef who makes your personalised omlettes on the spot, and a bar where you can juice your own fruit juices or otherwise ready made juices at the plenty plus waffles and pancakes inc, pastries, eggs benedict, buffet of all sorts... yumm yummm...breakfasts were GREAT!!!

Less than 5 min walk (no major road/street crossing as you walk on a pededtrian overpass bridge)to the Darling Harbour precinct, close to the IMAX...about 20 min easy stroll along the waters-edge to Wharf 8.

I'd say less than $10 taxi fare to the Wharf with your luggage (probably about $7.50) and taxis are plenty nearby....concierge will look after you...great people!!!

I thinnk the other closeby hotel to Wharf 8 was the Four Seasons, it was closer and larger than the Crowne...depends on how much $$$ you want to spend ... Both hotels offer harbour views....

Cheers!

We stayed at the Shangri-la in August and had a wonderful view of the harbour plus it is very close to the Rocks and we found lots of inexpensive restaurants to eat in.

We have also stayed at Sheraton on the Park but that is a fair way from the harbour though we have always had a habour view there. Also we have stayed at the Sir Stamford near the Opera House when it was the Ritz Carlton. We also had a great view from there. It is a boutique hotel with not so many rooms.

We stayed recently for one night after our cruise at Novotel Rockford. Really close to the wharf - within walking distance, although since we'd never been to Sydney we took a taxi and the driver was pointing out things to do and places to eat at on the way and he was also impressed with our choice - anyway, we paid $185 for a king superior room. There wasn't much of a view of the harbour from our window, but it was comfortable, VERY spacious after the cabin on the cruise, and breakfast was included. highly recommend it.
