Kids on Voyager (or others?)

First time cruiser... what's the procedure for having a 7 year old on board and trying to enjoy the adult nightlife? Buy a sitter? Take them to an early dinner and kids club? All this is new to me, so suggestions welcome! Thank you.

Yes, there are two options: late night group "sitting" in Adventure Ocean (fee) or in-cabin babysitter. ($8 per hour, I think) (inquire at the Purser's Desk/Guest Relations as soon as you know which night(s) you want a sitter.)

We had late seating on our recent cruise (son is only 5, but same idea). He ate room service or with the kids' club (they have 6pm kid dinners 3x on a 7 nighter at Johnny Rocket's on Voyager ships), then went to the club at 7. They can stay in the kids' club from 10-1am for $5/hour, but he was already exhausted when we picked him up at 10. What I WOULD have done, in retrospect, was to get a babysitter ($8/hour) for the two formal nights and Friday night, when most of the late night activities take place. We would have picked him up at 10 after dinner, put him to bed with the sitter keeping watch, and gone out again. We thought of it too late so there were no sitters available.

Some also do early seating and then go out during kid's club hours, as you mention, and that works out well for them.

Does anyone know if a two year old is eligable for the evening group sitting. I know it has a charge.

No. There is a minimum age of 3 for Adventure Ocean activities. Your only option, if you want some time away from a two year old, would be the in-room babysitting.
